Summary

Develop and maintain machining process parameters for all existing programs and participate in program launch activities for new programs. Participate in tool design configuration for both new and existing programs. Lead continuous improvement activities in the machining departments using a structured approach such as Six Sigma or Lean. The Manufacturing Engineer will primarily reside in the plant, however, will be in the office occasionally. Must be able to adhere to conditions of the plant. The Manufacturing Engineer will travel between multiple plants including US and Mexico.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to...)

  • Support promoting and modeling a culture of safe work practices to all team members.
  • Lead team activities developing and maintaining manufacturing processes. Projects may span all or part of project launch, initial start-up through mature production. o Initiates tooling, process or design changes to improve product performance, quality or manufacturing cost. o Demonstrates "Hands-on" techniques and a willingness to cooperatively work with machine operators, supervisors and leads to solve production problems. o Utilizes SPC; may lead or participate in process improvement efforts. o Actively participates in and conducts process reviews. o Supports manufacturing cost-estimating activities. (Cycle time estimates)
  • Interact frequently with other functional groups to coordinate technical and or documentation matters. May interact with suppliers and customers. o Works directly with Plant employees or Supervisors to resolve equipment, process, quality, efficiency or tooling issues. o Supports directly or indirectly Plant MRB Disposition and Corrective Action activities. o Reviews customer specifications and recommends changes to improve manufacturability as required. o Works closely with Sales and Engineering to establish cost trade-offs.
  • Acts as project leader on routine process or machine development efforts as required. o Cycle time reduction and tool cost savings o Drive improvements in machine scrap reductions
  • Prepare detailed plans necessary to complete work on projects, tooling or work centers for activities spanning several weeks to months.
  • Develop work instructions.

Position Reports to the Engineering Manager or VP of Manufacturing within the Pace Industries team

Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Engineering * 10+ years of work experience in Engineering * Able to travel (about 50% of the time between USA and Mexico * Must have experience in developing PFMEA for CNC machined products. * Six Sigma Training a plus * Background in Quality Systems a plus * CNC programming skills (Fanuc & Okuma controls) * Poka-yoke and error-proofing experience * Strong business acumen around manufacturing, engineering and management * Must have mechanical and analytical ability, math skills, and knowledge of machining practices including designs of fixtures and cutting tools. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with blueprint reading skills and GD&T knowledge. * Ability to work on a cross functional team and influence outside lines of reporting structure * Self-motivated, self-starter and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
