Stoneridge, Inc. seeks Product Engineer, Actuators in Novi, MI.

Duties: On behalf of an independent designer and manufacturer of highly engineered electrical and electronic components, will be a member of the Actuation Engineering team and will support the design, development, and testing of all aspects of actuation products. Will provide new product development and project launch support and will provide core technical support to ensure that the cost, timing, and performance objectives are met for assigned actuator product projects. Specific responsibilities include: Support the development of new or improved designs for actuator products. Support the building, modification, and testing of actuator products. Lead and support automotive engineering activities for new product developments and current production products while interfacing with global customers. Perform mechanical design using engineering tools including Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD & T), Tolerance stack ups, Finite Element Analyses (FEAs), material properties, and others. Support the benchmarking and analysis of competitor actuator products and technologies. Support the Actuator Engineering team to ensure that product design and performance compliance with Stoneridge's regulatory and customer specifications. Support the lead engineer to develop internal performance specifications and new product development. Ensure adequate project and technical communications including meetings, oral reports, technical reports, and project status reports with Stoneridge personnel, management, suppliers, and customers. Work with the Process and Manufacturing Engineering teams to improve the robustness and manufacturability of new products utilizing Design for Manufacture and Assembly techniques. Coordinate production activities with other teams including Sales, Purchasing, Supplier Development, Supplier Quality, and Operations to execute new programs as well as support activities related to in-production products. Draft, compile, and maintain engineering documentation. Utilize knowledge of current procedures, regulations, and customer and industry requirements and practices to successfully create and assist in defining new actuator product specifications to obtain new business. Assist and coordinate to identify, report, research, and resolve customer problems and concerns regarding actuator products.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a closely related technical field of study plus 3 years of experience in a position working with mechatronic actuators in the automotive industry. Requires background experience in the following: mechanical design, embedded electronics, embedded software, and in working with electrical machines including brushed and brushless DC motors; product development and validation for high volume applications such as automotive, ground transportation or aerospace; UGNX or a similar CAD program; and collaborating with globally resourced teams including testing and supplier quality assurance. Knowledge of the following: Automotive industry procedures and systems including statistical analysis and FMEA; and Application of mechatronic products in automotive and ground transportation applications.  Demonstrated understanding of the cause-and-effect relationships that provide the skill to identify and solve problems using tools including FTA, 8-D, and 5-why analysis. Proven track record prioritizing multiple projects. Excellent oral and written communication skills both internally and externally with customers and suppliers. Telecommuting permitted. This is a hybrid position working at Stoneridge's office in Novi, MI and working from a home office within commuting distance to Novi, MI. Position requires domestic travel up to 10% of the time.
