Education Quality Coordinator RN

Location: Oak Park, IL

Hospital: RUSH Oak Park Hospital

Department: Operating Room

Work Type: Full Time (Total FTE between 0.9 and 1.0)

Shift: Shift 1

Work Schedule: 8 Hr (8:00:00 AM - 4:03:00 PM)

Summary:

The Education Quality Coordinator (EQC) is an experienced nurse who coordinates and participates in the provision of education and/or nursing quality improvement. The Education Quality Coordinator evaluates, monitors, and improves the quality of nursing care at Rush Oak Park Hospital (ROPH). The EQC plans, implements, and evaluates educational activities to promote high standards of nursing practice throughout the Division of Nursing. The EQC reports to the Director of Nursing Education and has accountability to the clinical Unit Directors for department specific activities. The EQC is a leader and a role model for other nursing staff and exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Required Job Qualifications:

• 3 to 5 years of RN experience required

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

• Master’s Degree in: Nursing from an accredited school of nursing or related field experience is required.

• Current CPR

• Current Illinois License as Registered Nurse

• National certification within 36 months of hire.

• Demonstrated progressive, proficient leadership skills.

• Demonstrated clinical expertise.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

• Professional nursing certification

Physical Demands:

• Work requires ability to move throughout the Medical Center.

• Work requires lifting or carrying objects 15-25 lbs.

Competencies:

• A high level of analytical ability is required.

• Communication skill is required in order to lead and teach others.

• Ability to interact effectively with others in difficult situations.

• PowerPoint, Word and Excel skills

• The ability to check documents for errors, use a keyboard to enter or retrieve data, and closely examine images or reports as required.

Responsibilities:

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinates and leads formal and informal educational programs based on surgical evidenced based practice for staff.

  2. Initiates and/or participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Standards of Care and Standards of Practice.

  3. Leads activities that evaluate current practice and stimulate changes in nursing practice.

  4. Uses the results of quality monitoring data and other evidence/based content to plan and conduct annual competency verification activities that assure compliance with Rush Oak Park Hospital, The Joint Commission, Illinois Department of Public Health and professional association standards.

  5. Serves as a role model to nursing staff by demonstrating skilled interpersonal communication while involved in programs at Rush Oak Park Hospital.

  6. Fosters and continuously improves professional relationships within an interdisciplinary team to achieve positive outcomes.

  7. Analyzes and interprets clinical data, benchmark comparison data and other quality monitoring data.

  8. Identifies issues through interpretation of quality data and assists in the coordination of quality improvement activities for assigned departments as negotiated with the Nursing Directors.

  9. Mentors staff in the development and application of critical thinking in order to manage complex patients, care for changing patient conditions and understand quality improvement data/activities.

  10. Reviews specific patient cases to determine compliance with standards for nursing practice and reports findings to unit director, unit advisory committee, department advisory committee, and appropriate PNS standing committees.

  11. Develops, implements, and evaluates programs at the division-wide and the department level.

  12. Identifies educational needs of nursing staff in order to develop, implement and evaluate continued education programs, product in-services, and other staff development activities

  13. Coordinates the necessary tools, information, resources, and personnel for special programs and projects at Rush Oak Park Hospital.

  14. Achieves certification as a Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor within one year of hire and maintains this certification.

  15. Serves and leads as an expert in quality improvement process, tools and methodologies.

  16. Assumes a leadership role in facilitating division-wide innovations.

  17. Serves on Medical Center, Division of Nursing, and Professional Nursing Staff process improvement committees as designated.

  18. Incorporates knowledge from continued education activities and professional organizations.

  19. Instructs or facilitates others in teaching nursing staff about new products, techniques, research, interventions, or standards.

  20. Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice, including progress toward achievement of annual goals.
