Job Title: Hydrogeologist

RSI is seeking amid-level hydrogeologist as part of our groundwater team to develop creative approaches to remediating contaminated groundwater on the Department of Energy (DOE) Oak Ridge Site, working to restore the groundwater to its beneficial use. The successful candidate will be responsible for following the groundwater remedy process from Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study to Record of Decision (ROD) and post-ROD remedy implementation. This includes the development of work plans for investigating nature and extent of contamination, evaluation and interpretation of groundwater data, development of Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study reports, Proposed Plan, Record of Decision, and post-ROD documents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and peer reviews groundwater remedial investigation/design/action work plans, annual reports, and remedial action completion reports.

  • Designs groundwater monitoring networks to support site characterization and remedy performance evaluation.

  • Facilitates the Data Quality Objective (DQO) process for groundwater projects, leading multidisciplinary teams in identifying data gaps and subsequently developing a work plan that addresses those data needs.

  • Works closely with field sampling and well drilling teams to ensure data are collected in accordance with work plans.

  • Evaluates data generated by field activities to provide detailed interpretations of subsurface stratigraphy/structure,groundwater flow conditions, and nature and extent of contamination.

  • Evaluates and interprets groundwater data to develop potentiometric and plume maps of the groundwater systems.

  • Collaborates with groundwater modeling team to develop simulations of groundwater remedies and assess monitoring well placement and design.

  • Analyzes aquifer test results to interpret contaminant flow and transport and to design/optimize remedial systems.

  • Mentors junior hydrologists and environmental scientists through regular interactions and peer review of their work products.

  • Regularly presents to and collaborates with DOE clients, regulatory agencies and other DOE contractors.

Desired Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Geoscience

  • 5+ experience in groundwater remediation

  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills

  • Familiarity with ArcPro software
