Garrett County Airport Attendant in OAKLAND, Maryland

SUMMARY: Assist in the operation of Garrett County Airport and provide excellent customer service to visitors of the Airport.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assist the Airport Manager in the operation of the airport. 2. Performs daily airport management and control of the airport facilities to ensure the safe, efficient, secure, and continuous operational use of airport runways, taxiways, buildings, and other related areas. 3. Performs fueling on various aircraft, accepts fuel sales payments through Quick Books, issues receipts/invoices, and processes credit card transactions. 4. Make inspections of runways, taxiways, ramps, and fuel facilities. 5. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on airport equipment. 6. Performs ground maintenance (mowing, weed eating) and snow removal. 7. Communicate airport business through written and verbal communications. The airport attendant, as directed by the airport manager, maintains and updates the airport's records. 8. Monitor airport tenants and airport use to ensure that the Airports Minimum Operating Standards and Rules and Regulations are followed. 9. Communicate with citizens as necessary to maintain good relations with the public to ensure that citizens have an opportunity to receive airport, aviation and County information. 10. Monitor and maintain the airport Common Air Traffic Advisory UNICOM system. 11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires knowledge of the following:
  • General Airport operations and safety principles
  • Aircraft servicing techniques
  • Aviation and Airport Safety Practices
  • Public and Community Relations
  • Environmental Issues

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Computer experience required

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents using English language. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts. Must also have the ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Drivers License

Strength to perform average lifting of less than 5 pounds and occasionally over 20 pounds; arm, hand, and finger dexterity with at least one hand involved in activities such as reaching, handling, and feeling; good speaking and hearing ability; and good eyesight.

Good Health - Physical and Mental. The job requires 24-hour on-call availability, being available at the Airport during public events for preparation and directing program. The job requires performing winter snow removal and grass mowing. A requirement to work weekdays, weekends, evenings and holidays as needed. A requirement to climb and stand on a six-foot stepladder.
