Garrett County Public Schools Director of Student Services in Oakland, Maryland

FTE: Full-time Status: Exempt Terms: 12 months, 8 hours per day, may be greater depending upon the system needs Salary: $95,503 - $119,310 (commensurate with experience) Supervisor: Chief Academic Officer Start Date: No later than July 1, 2025 Application Deadline: Open until filled; priority is given to applications received by January 12, 2025.

Position Overview: The Director of Student Services oversees the planning, coordination, and management of all student service programs for Garrett County Public Schools.

Qualifications:

  • Hold a masters degree in counseling, social work, psychology, education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching or related experience (e.g., counseling, pupil personnel, social work, psychology, or school health).
  • Minimum of at least five (5) years of administrative or supervisory experience, preferably in public education.
  • Hold a valid Maryland certification/licensure in pupil services, social work, counseling, school psychology, or education.
  • Hold a valid Administrator II certification preferred.
  • Display strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Maintain flexibility to work beyond standard hours as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate school-level student services teams.
  • Develop and implement policies ensuring compliance with state bylaws.
  • Supervise staff and coordinate student services with community resources.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver effective student services.
  • Establish partnerships with agencies and nonprofits.
  • Act as a liaison with MSDE and other organizations on student services matters.
  • Manage programs such as residency, counseling, psychological services, pupil personnel services, and homeless student support.
  • Plan professional development for staff on student services.
  • Evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of student services.
  • Analyze and report data to improve service delivery.
  • Implement Community Schools initiatives aligned with the Blueprint for Marylands Future.
  • Serve as system leader for Safe School Act, homelessness, foster care, kinship care, behavioral health, and Title IX coordination.
  • Manage staff selection, evaluation, and development.
  • Oversee school discipline, crisis intervention, and alternative programming.
  • Lead the implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for behavior
  • Manage budgets and fiscal resources effectively.
  • Participate actively in the Superintendents Leadership Team.
  • Travel to State and other meetings as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
