Mississippi Employer HR Generalist and Payroll Accountant in Ocean Springs, Mississippi

 *Job Overview *

An established company in Gulfport is looking to hire an HR Generalist and Payroll Accountant. This individual will be 

responsible for processing weekly payroll, benefits and all related GL transactions. 

 

*Responsibilities *

ï?· Prepares and processes weekly payroll including changes and adjustments 

ï?· Reviews and reconciles payroll records 

ï?· Maintains payroll records 

ï?· Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices 

ï?· Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors 

ï?· Assists employees with payroll deductions and withholdings 

ï?· Provides information to employees and outside agencies regarding payroll issues 

ï?· Processes all elected and mandatory payroll deductions including taxes, child support orders, insurances, and 

garnishments 

ï?· Reviews and maintains updated procedures 

ï?· Point of contact for time and attendance related issue/questions 

ï?· Generates payroll and financial reports for various departments 

ï?· Completes all weekly/monthly payroll related journal entries 

ï?· Assists Accounting as needed 

ï?· Performs other duties as assigned 

 

*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities *

ï?· Proficient with Microsoft Office 

ï?· Maintain current knowledge of HR and payroll  

ï?· Must be very detail oriented and be able to perform basic mathematical operations 

ï?· Ability to detect fiscal recording errors quickly and efficiently 

ï?· Address/resolve employees' payroll related concerns in a professional, discretionary and confidential manner 

ï?· Work independently or in a team environment with minimal supervision 

ï?· Handle confidential information with discretion. 

ï?· Ability to maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with other employees, peers, and other 

departments. 

ï?· Read, write, communicate effectively and comprehend directions 

ï?· Maintain, direct, improve and analyze payroll processing and procedures 

ï?· Model and practice the highest standards of ethical conduct 

 

*Education/Experience *

ï?· Associate degree in accounting is preferred but not required (experience can replace) 

ï?· Experience with Great Plains preferred 

ï?· At least one year of experience working in a payroll department 

ï?· At least one year of experience in GL accounting (an understanding of debits and credits) 

ï?· Experience with payroll software (APS preferred) 

 

An equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the listed minimum 

requirements. 

 

Details: Full-time with benefits including health insurance, dental, vision, LTD, STD, PTO.   Pay is commensurate with 

skills and experience.
