Chemours is seeking a Government Affairs Manager to join our growing Government Affairs team in Washington, D.C . This position will report directly to the Head of U.S. Federal Affairs.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Demonstrate a high degree of knowledge about the political, economic and social factors affecting public policy decision making; how engagement with government officials can lead to the enactment of new or the modification of existing laws; pursue government R&D funding opportunities; encourage targeted government purchasing decisions; implement policies and take other governmental actions that are favorable to Chemours’ business growth, corporate well-being and the industry sectors in which the company operates.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with federal officials, particularly members of Congress and senior leaders in the executive branch, to provide advice and counsel in support of Chemours’ public policy objectives.

  • Serve as internal business partner to anticipate external environment to identify and manage legislative and policy challenges that may affect the business.

  • Monitor and analyze federal legislation relevant to Chemours.

  • Develop and implement strategies and tactics for outreach, advocacy and market positioning aimed at achieving competitive advantage and the most beneficial solutions for Chemours or minimizing the negative impact of public policy decisions.

  • Interface with Chemours’ senior management and business leaders on federal public policy issues.

  • Liaise with Chemours’ Functions (Regulatory Affairs, Communications, Legal, Product Stewardship, Remediation, Sourcing, Tax, Human Resources, etc.) to ensure coordination and integration of the company’s public policy agenda.

  • Support Chemours’ engagement in select trade associations and industry coalitions that operate at the federal level.

  • Facilitate interactions by Chemours’ business and functional representatives with key government officials, including advising on Chemours testimony before legislative committees to present the company’s position on pending legislative proposals.

  • Support the management of contract lobbyists.

  • Working with Chemours Legal and outside Legal Counsel, oversee responsibility for federal lobbyist filings and reporting compliance.

  • Support the political contributions program for Chemours, including the operations, contributions strategy, and governance of The Chemours PAC.

  • Propose candidates for political contributions and serve as corporate interface on the delivery of campaign contributions.

The following is required for this role:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant government affairs experience, including direct lobbying or government employment (legislative or executive agency)

  • Experience and success working a broad range of public policy issues including, but not limited to: environment, climate, energy, health and safety; chemicals management; product stewardship; environmental remediation; transportation; taxation; trade; corporate security; economic development; general business, etc.

  • Knowledge of the political, economic, and social environment in the United States at the federal level.

  • Proactive interpersonal work style that is collaborative, communicative, open, honest and respectful.

  • Ability to positively represent the company’s views and positions with external audiences, especially legislators and administrative policy makers.

  • Proven skills related to critical thinking and problem solving; ability and willingness to manage complex subject matters/issues and multiple responsibilities under tight deadlines.

  • Excellent communications skills (written and verbal).

  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with diverse groups of people and perspectives.

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of cross-functional teams.

  • Capability to utilize consultants in a constructive, collaborative, and professional manner.

  • Live or be willing to relocate to the Washington, D.C.

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10 percent of total work time.

Pay Range (in local currency):

$134,400.00 - $210,000.00

Chemours Level:

28

Annual Bonus Target:

16%

Factors considered in extending a compensation offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, and alignment with market data. The incentive pay is dependent on business results and individual performance and subject to the terms and conditions of the specific plans.
