National Park Service Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor in Oldtown, Maryland

Summary The incumbent is to supervise trades and labor work on a regular, recurring and substantially full-time and continuing basis. This position is not eligible for telework. Responsibilities The major duties of the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor position include, but are not limited to the following: Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal NHP Oldtown Maintenance District to include the daily supervision and work direction of building and utility trades, crafts, trails, grounds, and janitorial facility operations. Performs administrative functions. Reviews and approves payroll, leave, extra hours request, and scheduling. Employee performance appraisals shall be developed and completed by the incumbent. .Provides direction and guidance to employees in different maintenance areas i.e., carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical and custodial. As determined by availability of adequate staffing, the incumbent may be required to perform tasks. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You must possess and maintain a current Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License, or be able to obtain one within 90 days of appointment. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or(c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. Qualifications Condition of Employment This position requires the employee to possess a Class B CDL to perform the duties of this position. You must either possess a Class B CDL, or be able to obtain one within 90 days of appointment in order to be considered for this position. If you do not obtain a Class B CDL within 90 days of appointment, your employment will be terminated (Note: NPS will not provide training or resources to obtaining a Class B CDL for this position). To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to lead or supervise. (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic). Use of measuring instruments. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. Knowledge of materials. Additional Information This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate. This is an essential personnel position. Physical Demands: Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms. Where surfaces are to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach requiring incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: The work is done inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present. Also required to work in extreme weather conditions and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. Frequently exposed to the potential risk of broken bones, shock, burns, cuts, bruises. Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
