Position Title: Scheduler Reports To: Manager, Patient Access Department: Patient Access FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Code: 3500056 Revised: 9/26/2022 Job Summary: The Outreach Scheduler is responsible for appropriately scheduling patients (in person or by phone) who need diagnostic services (imaging or laboratory), outpatient clinic services, or surgical/procedure scheduling in a manner which corresponds to the satisfaction of the patient and in accordance with the healthcare facility's scheduling requirements. Education, Training or Degree Required: (indicate preferred or required) High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred) Certification from a college or technical school (preferred) License/Registration/Certification Required: (will be primary source verified by HR) No license, registration or certification required. Communicates test preparations or patient education instructions to patients. Uses appropriate teaching tools, resources and language when providing information to patients. Prints and distributes related documents according to department procedures. Prints and mails patient appointment and recall notices. Coordinates patient status and patient location within hospital and clinic departments. Ensure provider scheduling templates are accurate according to monthly provider schedules. Responsible for scheduling same-day appointments for clinic patients in Laboratory and Radiology. Schedule or re-schedule provider clients from referral and imaging ques, scheduling calls, walk-in clients or provider return appointments. Responsible for monitoring incoming faxes and distributing as appropriate. Monitor and utilize referral work ques and to appropriately schedule patients. May be required to complete prior authorization for specialty services. Maintains privacy and confidentiality regarding patients, staff, and all pertinent information (HIPAA). Additional duties as assigned.
