Description

Robert Half is in search for a Controller in the Financial Services/Insurance industry for a client, located in Omaha, Nebraska. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and directing accounting services to support financial operations, producing financial statements and reports, and working closely with department personnel.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee various aspects of financial reporting, investment, and fixed asset accounting to ensure proper internal controls are in place.

• Lead activities associated with preparing annual and quarterly financial statements.

• Establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards.

• Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.

• Oversee the budgeting program, including developing and enforcing required procedures, advising departments on and analyzing submissions, and preparing budget summaries for management.

• Compile data for audits and oversee annual audit processes, serving as a liaison to the audit firm staff.

• Coordinate for AM Best and other survey and report requests, ensuring timely responses.

• Participate in the development of the department budget and complete quarterly budget variance reports.

• Collaborate with the Information Systems Department to maintain and upgrade changes to financial systems.

• Implement functional goals and objectives consistent with department strategy.

• Conduct performance appraisals, develop and mentor staff to achieve the company’s desired culture.

• Schedule work and align available staff to support department/function operations; participate in the decisions to hire, transfer, and terminate department staff.

• Work with company management to ensure open lines of communication regarding department services or needs, facilitating workflow and processes.

Skills:

• Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems and ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning

• Experience with ADP - Financial Services and DCAA

• Familiarity with ERP Solutions, Accounting Functions, Accounts Payable (AP), and Accounts Receivable (AR)

• Knowledge of Auditing, Budget Processes, and Insurance - Annual Statement Preparation

• Understanding of GAAP - STAT, Month End Close, and Financial Statement Preparation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, CPA preferred

• Applicant must have a minimum of 7 years experience in an accounting role within the Financial Services industry

• Prior experience in Auditing and Budget Processes is desirable

• Knowledge of Insurance - Annual Statement Preparation is an asset

• Understanding of GAAP - STAT principles is mandatory

• Proficiency in conducting Month End Close procedures is required

• Experience in Financial Statement Preparation is essential.
