Omaha Public Power District Security Analyst in Omaha, Nebraska

Security Analyst

The Security Analyst is responsible to monitor and respond to security and enterprise monitoring tools, support security projects, design automated alerting or reporting, and support incident escalation. The Security Analyst monitors and acts on request fulfillment and advises proper methods and processes to the business. The Security Analyst will also provide not only day to functions in Security Operations, but includes required compliance vulnerability, cloud access, data access, and other monitoring activities. The Security Analyst must assure the integrity, continuity and confidentiality of information resources across the OPPD enterprise. Scope of positions functions include security administration, policies, standards, procedures, malware protection, configuration management, and use monitoring.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

Cybersecurity Threats: Implement and monitor improvements in security operations threat monitoring, attack methods, and incident response:

  • Review current security capabilities and continually evaluate existing threats, security risk and impact, and analyze possible solutions to mitigate risks.

  • Review security operations of technologies and systems to identify enhancements, changes and risks within the OPPD environment.

Security Project Delivery: As part of a project team, execute security tasks and activities related to new and existing projects and technologies based on the OPPD's cybersecurity and technology roadmaps

  • Consult with IT projects to provide guidance on security architecture and security requirements to ensure that project-related risks are appropriately addressed.

  • Security Operations Solutions : Design with Security Engineering, evaluate capabilities, and implement security operations solutions and tools to meet the needs of OPPD.

    Qualifications

Required:

  • One (1) year of experience in information system account controls, IT/IS administration, or security administration.

  • One (1) year of experience in one or more of the security domains and/or systems/network administration. Must be able to obtain a Security+ certification or equivalent.

  • Hands on experience with network components, -firewalls, VPN gateways, , IT Systems, desktop administration, wireless access security systems, network/host intrusion detection systems, security training, risk management, vulnerability analysis, security metrics and security monitoring/testing tools.

  • General understanding of operation implementation and management of security operations practices, security infrastructure, security auditing, networking, operating systems and vulnerability management.

Desired:

  • Bachelor degree in computer science, information systems or related field.

  • Must be able to gain NERC and nuclear unescorted access as needed and support vulnerability and account management programs in the following compliance areas (NERC, NRC (NEI 08-09), PCI).

  • Good oral and written communication skills, be well organized, and be able to work with people.
