METROPOLITAN UTIL DIST Senior Infrastructure Engineer in Omaha, Nebraska

Position Summary

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will work with Engineering and operational divisions to lead root cause analyses of water main breaks and propose eventual solutions to reduce break events. This position will research and analyze alternate pipe materials, construction techniques, lining technologies and operational improvements to optimize the life-cycle cost of water and gas mains. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will play a key role in assisting the Director, Infrastructure Integrity in creating a long-term capital improvement plan for the District. Additionally, the role includes overseeing the District's water infrastructure designs, supervising a team of Engineers, managing project workloads and fostering collaboration across various divisions within the District.

Minimum Requirements Required - Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering related field. and Required - Minimum of 3 years of experience and demonstrated proficiency with geographic information systems (GIS) software and ability to train others on District GIS tasks.

Education Required - Bachelor's Degree of Science Degree in Engineering or engineering related field.

Licenses, Certifications and/or Testing Required - Licensed Professional Engineer-NSPE In the state of Nebraska or become registered within twelve (12) months of being placed in this position. within 1 Year and Required - Have and maintain a valid drivers license Upon Hire Required - Pre-employment Background Check and Drug Screen Upon Hire Required - Employee(s) in this position are covered under the Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol testing provisions. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated success managing short-term and long-range projects/activities, and the daily responsibility for decisions, consequences and results. Knowledge of the various types of pipe materials and construction techniques utilized for the distribution of water delivery for municipalities. Ability to analyze multiple sources of data to continually and systematically improve workflows, procedures and output quality. Strong interpersonal skills to professionally represent the District in all interactions with internal personnel at all levels and external customers, industry and utilities contacts,contractors and vendors. Ability to effectively influence personnel across all business disciplines. Must have a strong statistical and/or financial analysis background. Proficiency with personal computers, tablets and/or other electronic devices including, but not limited to, enterprise wide software (i.e., SAP) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word). (Intermediate proficiency) Ability to learn new or upgraded computer software as required. Efficient and professional written and verbal communication skills, in English, to assist internal and external customers, co-workers and management professionally, regardless of provocation. Experience with Risk Based Asset Management and hydraulic modeling software preferred. (Entry proficiency) Must be willing to attend evening and/or weekend functions.

Essential Functions Research and analyze historical information related to District water main breaks by evaluating pertinent information to include, but not limited to, operational impacts, pipeage, material type, break frequency, soil elements, and seasonal influences. Provide oversight of monthly meetings with Engineering and Operations personnel to identify, assess and log root cause analyses of water main breaks. Ensure accuracy and input of data in GIS. Review and recommend industry advancements in pipe materials and construction techniques to reduce overall project costs of water main replacement. Provide technical and/or field support on pilot projects as needed. Work alongside Engineering to manage the Districts risk-based asset management software to identify critical miles of main requiring replacement and assist with long range renewal planning. Plan, budget, and design water distribution system replacement projects in accordance with applicable federal, state, local and District standards and procedures. Research and recommend condition assessment technologies and project areas. Work with Engineering and Operations to budget and complete assessment projects and subsequent rehabilitation work to reduce the risk profile of the water distribution system. Assist in developing a long-term proactive and strategic initiative for the replacement of linear and vertical capital water assets. Determine current state of our assets, acceptable levels of service, criticality, estimated and remaining useful life of assets. Continuously identify customers of high consequence, such as hospitals, rail systems, civic arenas, large volume customers, large employers and integrate location with riskbased management tool. Evaluate cost effective solutions to increase distribution system reliability for high consequence customers. Support the corrosion section to cost effectively increase the life of metallic water mains using cathodic protection methods. Assist with research and outreach to industry experts and experienced peers to find proven and reliable solutions for corrosion initiatives. Assist the Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP) committee to evaluate threats to the gas system. Develop cost estimates and bid analyses for District projects. Schedule and assign design work and projects to ensure completion by established deadlines. Coordinate with contracted engineering design and construction firms. Develop talent: coach and mentor employees; support employee growth and development through leadership opportunities and professional development. Provide employees feedback through completion of performance appraisals and employee one-on-one meetings. Manage employee unacceptable behavior, poor work performance or policy violations, including the use of discipline when appropriate. Maintain financial oversight of budget or works with financial responsibility in mind. Plan for attrition through awareness of separation risks, cross-training, employee development and succession planning. Handle stresses related to effectively completing the above referenced responsibilities. Fulfill responsibilities common to all supervisory, professional and administrative positions as stated.
