The Theatre Department at SUNY Oneonta is calling for a skilled Assistant Technical Director (ATD) beginning January 2025.The expectations are to assist the Technical Director of the Theatre Department with the day-to-day operations of the two theatres, the scene shop and related support areas of the Theatre Complex of the Fine Arts Building.

SUNY Oneonta's Theatre Program provides a strong foundation for diverse career paths and further education through a blend of classroom learning and hands-on experience. The department's collaborative, supportive atmosphere encourages creativity and interaction between students and faculty, with abundant opportunities for student involvement in productions, design, and performance in dedicated facilities within the Fine Arts Center.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Execute routine maintenance and safety upgrades to the theatre equipment.

  • Assist with the construction, rigging, and installation of the scenery, sound, and lighting for departmental productions.

  • Supervise students in the operation and use of the theatres and shop as part of the Play Production Program.

  • Keep the scene shop and theatres clean and in good working order.

  • Accommodate and supervise the technical arrangements of all non-departmental groups using the two theatres of the Theatre Complex.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Good working knowledge of current equipment and practices in theatre sound, scenic construction, lighting and rigging.

  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in professional theatre.

  • Master of Fine Arts in Theatre

  • Experience working with and serving diverse populations.
