Job Purpose

The Operations Manager will lead all aspects of two municipal wastewater treatment plants and 160 miles of collection utility systems with 3 lift stations. You will use your validated expertise to ensure that all utility services meet the highest standards of efficiency, safety, and compliance. Your ability to lead and collaborate with a team of expert individuals will be integral to successfully completing projects and achieving the organization's goals.

We are looking for candidates with a Class IV Wastewater Treatment license in Alabama and experience leading diverse teams of operators and technicians. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare internal reports, regulatory reports, and client reports as defined by the project manager

  • Intermittently check and verify that the staff is performing duties accurately, including operations, maintenance, safety, lab procedures, and QA/QC program

  • Conduct weekly and monthly meetings with department heads regarding project performance and goal achievement

  • Help define and then approve functions and objectives of the facilities and staff

  • Take effective corrective action in case of emergencies

  • Lead all aspects of the safety program and ensure it is being enthusiastically followed

  • Conduct interviews with potential employees

  • Perform employee evaluations

  • Approve project staff schedules

  • General office and plant administrative responsibilities

  • Assist in budget planning and preparation

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of the procedures, equipment, and tools for the treatment of wastewater as well as the maintenance and repair of utility lines.

  • Knowledge of different types of pipe and fittings used in the sewer utility industry.

  • Basic understanding of municipal sewer infrastructure, including lift stations, force mains, and collection systems.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in a multifaceted environment.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are needed to build and maintain positive relationships with team members and individuals involved.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports, and speak optimally before groups of customers or employees.

Working Conditions

While carrying out the responsibilities associated with this role, you may encounter diverse environmental conditions including extreme temperatures, wet or humid conditions, varying light levels, airborne particles, high noise levels, vibrations, and unpleasant odors. Additionally, this position necessitates frequent standing, kneeling, bending, climbing, lifting heavy objects, and exerting physical effort.
