Corteva Agriscience has an exciting opportunity for an Agronomy Senior Research Associate to join our Orange City, IA team.

As an Agronomy Senior Research Associate, you will plan and execute the safe and efficient day-to-day management of corn and soybean product development at the Orange City, IA Research Center. You will be involved in all phases of planting, growing, phenotyping, and harvesting research materials to meet pre-commercial product advancement and data quality goals. You will adopt and implement evolving technologies and methodologies that enhance and improve product development.

Primary Responsibilities - How will you help us Grow

  • Lead assigned projects and coordinate experiments, ensuring adherence to safety standards and protocols.

  • Operate research equipment, including planters, sprayers, combines, silage harvesters, etc.

  • Champion a culture of safety and compliance with Corteva's rigorous safety standards, fostering a work environment where safety is paramount.

  • Collaborate with off-site cooperators to secure land for yield trials and other research projects, demonstrating strong communication skills and a customer-centric approach.

  • Conduct experiments and data collection activities, maintaining strict adherence to data quality protocols and ensuring that data is within set parameters.

  • Oversee weed management at our research locations, including spraying and fertilizing operations, ensuring optimal plant health and compliance with environmental regulations.

  • Manage disease screening projects across various crops, contributing to research efforts aimed at identifying and mitigating disease impacts.

  • Take charge of managing corn silage locations, overseeing operations from planting to harvest to ensure timely, high-quality data and crop results.

  • Provide guidance and direction to team members and collaborators, promoting a culture of excellence and adherence to established protocols.

  • Summarize experiments, manage, and analyze data, and prepare reports to communicate findings to stakeholders.

  • May involve people management responsibilities, including recruiting, hiring, orienting, supervising, and evaluating employee performance.

  • Organize and supervise the work of other employees, ensuring that tasks are completed safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

What expertise have you grown - What You'll Bring to the Table

  • Master's degree (preferred) or a Bachelor's degree in agronomy or a related field.

  • Five plus years (5+) of experience in crop research or field plot management.

  • Exceptional mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues.

  • Skilled in operating agricultural research machinery while maintaining all safety requirements.

  • Demonstrated commitment to adhering to safety standards and protocols, with a strong emphasis on safety excellence.

  • Excellent communication skills when dealing with farmers/cooperators and other stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of agronomy, crop production, plant development, and experimental field plot design.

  • Experience with weed management practices, disease screening, and corn silage operations is highly desirable.

  • Possess a commercial pesticide license or the ability to obtain one.

  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills to effectively coordinate complex research center operations.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, strategic analysis, and communication skills.

  • Self-motivation and the ability to initiate projects, improvements, decisions, and team collaboration.

  • Team player who can work in a multifunction research center and across crops and assigned projects.

  • Ability to work independently while setting high expectations.

  • Ability to obtain a CMV license to haul trailers.

  • Competent in standard Microsoft Office programs, and the ability to learn new software.

  • Capable of working in varying ergonomic and environmental conditions for extended periods of time.

  • Flexibility to work extended days at critical times of the season. Overnight stays during planting and harvesting may be required.
