JOB DESCRIPTION:The Nathan Kline Institute (NKI) for Psychiatric Research is currently seeking applicants for a temporary position with the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) and Institutional Review Board (IRB). This temporary position includes the opportunity to assist and learn about various forms of psychiatric research and the processes involved with approving and managing research projects. The IRB is an entity composed of clinicians from varying backgrounds that reviews the ethics and conduct of human research. This temporary position is ideally suited for individuals with an interest in ethics, research, or the challenges that can be faced in science involving human subjects.The incumbent will provide direct support to the IRB administration and HRPP compliance unit to include a variety of tasks that include preparing data for review by the committee, management of IRB. You will work to compile and prepare reports that review and track research proposals. In this context, you will receive robust training in clinical and research ethics by assisting and working side-by-side with experienced psychiatrists, psychologist, bioethicists, and research clinicians. The prospective employee can expect to gain a basic understanding of the requirements of performing human subject research which include information about federal and state requirements.This position permits up to 50 % of schedule to be worked remotely.JOB DUTIES:• Prepare and modify documents including correspondence, reports, drafts, memos, and emails.• Maintain IRB database.• Schedule and coordinate meetings and appointments for managers or supervisors in administration• Prepare agendas for meetings and distribute minutes of meetings.• Attend monthly IRB Committee meetings.• Maintenance of the NKI education requirements for all research.• Maintaining billing spreadsheets of sponsored projects for IRB, as needed• Maintenance of Compliance Tracking forms• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum Qualifications:• Minimum High School Diploma or GED. Students currently pursuing baccalaureate, or higher-level education, welcomed.• Ability to collect, analyze and incorporate additional technical information from a variety of sources into this process.• Ability to work with an electronic IRB review system; guide or provide assistance to others using the system for IRBsubmission, review and approval.• Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality in dealing with protected information.Preferred Qualifications:• Experience or interest in ethics or research a plus. A positive attitude, ability to plan and adapt to change, as well as stronginterpersonal, oral and written communication skills are required.Background Investigation/Justice Center Review Requirements:Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment. 2) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR).
