Marriott Vacations Worldwide Staff Accountant 14 in Orlando, Florida
The Staff Accountant role is part of the Consolidated Accounting team within the Centralized Resort & Association Operations Accounting team, primarily supporting the Ancillary businesses. This position is responsible for the monthly close process and preparation of balance sheet account reconciliations for all MVW branded resorts.
Core work activities include:
Preparation of reconciliations and journal entries
Working with leadership to review ancillary audit schedules to prepare for annual audits
Following departmental directives to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures
Driving process improvement to ensure efficiency and scalability Expected Contributions
Contributes to team, department and/or business results by performing the following types of tasks: journal entry compliance, adherence to account reconciliation policy, and partnering with Finance and Accounting teams to ensure organizational success.
Assists more senior associates in achieving business results by: o Utilizing technical knowledge and skills to enhance business processes o Allocating own time effectively to meet goals in a manner that does not disadvantage other associates or groups o Uses problem solving skills to offer solutions to problems encountered day-to-day.
Demonstrates an awareness of personal strengths and areas for improvement and works to improve and increase skills and knowledge.
Accounting and Controls
Participate in month-end close process ensuring timelines are met, all required entries are recorded, and potential delays/issues are properly communicated and addressed with Leaders.
Ensure balance sheet accounts are supported by appropriate documentation and comply with policies.
Prepare data and information for Corporate Audit team related to annual ancillary external audit, including required schedules and ad-hoc requests.
Ability to interpret standard GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act).

Superior communication skills, including the ability to effectively report to direct leadership in a verbal and written format
Candidate Profile Education:
- Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting preferred, or • High School Diploma/GED and equivalent work experience
Experience:
- 1-3 years related work experience in finance and accounting Skills and Attributes: • Developed analytical and organizational skills Technical Skills: (if applicable) • Knowledge of PeopleSoft and Excel
