NBC Universal Technical Trainer, Horticulture in Orlando, Florida

JOB SUMMARY:

Identify, develop and facilitate operational and safety training as well as coordinating updates to Personal Qualifications Standards (“PQS”) program, SOPs, and job plans in response to changes in procedures or requirements by collaborating with the technical writers. Responsible for PQS training for Horticulture technicians to properly perform preventative maintenance and inspections on all aspects of safety, show quality, and plant health. Maintains ownership of classroom, and field training programs, tools and reporting. Assists with the procurement, scheduling, and overseeing of highly technical third-party trainers and ensures proper alignment with EHS standards and procedures.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedules, delivers and facilitates online/classroom and field structured training, and development programs in support of the Horticulture PQS program, objectives, and safety initiatives including spot talks. Assists in the selection, training, and supervision of in-field trainers.

  • Maintains training records and reports by using available systems such as ULearn, Maximo, and EHS compliance tracking system. Creates work orders to keep track of training using proper standardization. Partners with Maximo specialists to efficiently use Maximo for training tracking and reporting purposes.

  • Designs and develops on-demand training using Articulate and other specialized software and manages their implementation in ULearn. Partners with technical writers to ensure on-demand material aligns with Horticulture’s documented standards and procedures.

  • Assists with the procurement and scheduling of highly technical third-party trainers and ensures proper alignment with EHS standards and procedures. Use Maximo, and any other required procurement software to manage the procurement process. Writes and manages required contracts and scopes of work as needed for third-party trainers by collaborating with the Legal department.

  • Audits team member training compliance and schedules missing training as needed. Produces and sends ad-hoc and routine reports on training status and requirements. Manage all trade certifications held by TMs in the department such as FNGLA, ISA, FDACs, MOT/TTC by ensuring they stay current and in good standing by scheduling required CEUs and refresher classes.

  • Identify new industry trends and standards for all training needs both in the Horticulture realm and the training and development standards. Actively meet with the RCM team to stay up to date with new standards and initiatives within the Technical Services division.

  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION:

  • High school degree or GED required.

  • Associate’s degree (AS) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in Horticulture and/or related field preferred.

    EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years experience in training required. Previous experience in training or developing training materials is desired.

  • 7-10 Years preferred in a resort/attraction or similar upscale landscape environment, certifications, or equivalent combination of education and experience

    CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) certifications, and FNGLA (Florida Nursery Grower Landscape Association) certifications preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Must have advanced Microsoft Excel and Outlook skills.

  • Must have basic graphical and photographic editing skills for the purpose of tailoring existing graphical information for use in new documents. Adobe Photoshop experience preferred.

  • Must be familiar with Horticulture best practices, integrated pest management, irrigation water management, arboriculture practices, tools, heavy equipment, and 2-cycle equipment.

  • Must be familiar with MOT/TTC state regulations and procedures.

  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to present complex information in a simple, easy-to-understand written form, using proper English grammar.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with technical personnel.

  • Must have a working knowledge of Maximo.

  • Should have a working knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint.

  • Experience with Articulate for training development purposes preferred.
