The Principal Engineer (QT Linux Developer – Software develops embedded software for various on-vehicle HMI display applications. The developer shall be able to create vehicle level designs and provide feedback on systems requirements as they relate to the HMI. Will lead the implementation and integration of HMI display software written in C++ and Qt.

YOUR IMPACT:

  • Responsible for completion of a project or part of a project of moderate complexity on time.

  • May be responsible for overall project schedule and budget.

  • May be responsible for managing multiple priorities.

  • Performs more complex engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks as assigned according to Oshkosh, as well as general industry, engineering standards and processes.

  • Responsible for preparation and delivery of plans, designs, computation methods, and/or reporting.

  • Collaborate as needed with other engineering or business support disciplines internally as well as suppliers externally.

  • May have exposure to the external customers and/or industry organizations.

  • Provide guidance or mentorship to entry level engineers working on common projects.

  • Research, create, and update standard engineering methodology and procedures - best practices, etc.

  • Conduct independent research and development on new HMI technologies and establish requirements (resources, equipment, estimates, test plans, and milestones) according to the needs of a project related to real-time operating system (RTOS), systems, open-source tools, and industry HMI trends.

  • Work with internal and external project teams on advanced control development efforts independently with minimum supervision using embedded software and model-based development tool suites.

  • Lead or direct feasibility studies and project estimates (manpower, budget development, and timelines etc.) on proposed projects.

  • Lead or direct proposal development with regards to acquiring appropriate funding for various advanced control development efforts.

  • Provide insight to engineering design teams and mentoring to low level engineers as needed based on expertise.

  • Design, implement and document real-time embedded software written in C++ and Qt.

  • Support supervisor, engineers, and other departments to execute job assignments.

  • Responsible for the design and implementation of software to meet various requirements which include: functionality, memory utilization, performance and maintainability.

  • Read and create software designs in UML.

  • Provide technical assistance for prototype, pilot and production software.

  • Follow good software practices including the use of version control, change control and issue tracking software.

  • Follow a CMMI level 3 process as part of developing software.

  • Provide support to programs to include travel to off-site locations as necessary to accomplish assigned engineering tasks.

  • Participate in project time estimation, technical proposals and decision analysis.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Regular attendance is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with five (5) or more years of related experience.

  • Experience with Qt6, QML, Design Studio, and Qt Creator.

  • Experience with using Qt6 in an embedded environment.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering.

  • Familiarity with JavaScript, JSON, Python, and SQL database in addition to embedded C/C++.

  • Experience with Qt’s Application Manager to create highly-complex UI applications.

  • Experience with embedded application containerization using docker/podman
