The Oswego Alumni Association, Inc., located at SUNY Oswego, invites applications for a full-time Director of Alumni Engagement. While this position is located on the campus of SUNY Oswego, this is an Oswego Alumni Association, Inc., position, NOT a New York State position. The Oswego Alumni Association, Inc. supports and adheres to the mission and vision of SUNY Oswego.

Salary: $65,000 - $75,000/year. Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Oswego Alumni Association provides an excellent benefits package including vacation and sick time, medical insurance and retirement contributions.

Description of Responsibilities:

SUNY Oswego seeks a dynamic and creative leader for the position of Director of Alumni Engagement to help develop a culture of engagement, volunteerism and philanthropy among alumni and current students. The Director of Alumni Engagement is a member of the Division of University Advancement.

The successful candidate will be an energetic, team-builder who values higher education, appreciates traditions, attracts people to their causes, inspires others to rally around a common goal, enjoys meeting new people and having fun, and incorporates feedback into revised or new programs, events and communication. The successful candidate will help bridge the university's past to its future by creating programs, communication and events that bring together a diverse community of 94,000 alumni worldwide and connect them back to the current campus, its students and its priorities.

The Alumni Engagement team coordinates programs to involve, engage and communicate with our more than 94,000 proud Oswego alumni. The director is responsible for the strategic direction of a robust, national alumni engagement program and is charged with: inspiring an already engaged alumni community through events, programs and communication; providing leadership for junior-level Alumni Engagement staff, student interns/employees and dozens of alumni volunteers; directing programming for current students and recent graduates (Graduates Of the Last Decade - GOLD alumni); developing a strategy for online alumni programming; managing an annual Reunion Weekend program, an annual Founder's Weekend program and affinity reunions throughout the year; overseeing the coordination of bi-annual Torchlight Ceremonies; collaborating on student/alumni career networking programs; establishing annual operating plans and budgets; managing and soliciting a portfolio of alumni donors; and working with both divisional and campus partners to build a strong sense of engagement, involvement and philanthropy for the entire alumni community.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum 3 years demonstrated professional experience in alumni engagement, advancement, student affairs, higher education, event planning, not-for-profit agencies or other industries similar in scope to SUNY Oswego's advancement operation

  • Proven leadership skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and demonstrated team-building skills

  • Excellent written, public speaking and interpersonal skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as Google Suite (particularly Docs, Sheets and Forms)

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to travel

  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Management/supervisory experience

  • Five years of professional experience

  • Experience with reunions, event coordination and program development

  • Experience with volunteer management

  • Experience with managing a budget

  • Strong social media experience and skills

  • Experience with Anthology
