One Gas Gas Controller in Overland Park, Kansas

Position Description:

What You Will Do

Perform responsibilities related to monitoring flow of gas or natural gas liquids through the pipeline system in a safe, reliable, compliant and efficient manner. This includes transmission, gathering, storage and processing systems.

Use computers and SCADA digital displays to determine operating pressures and monitor and direct flow of natural gas or gas liquids through pipeline systems.

Monitor and help determine load requirements using company approved forecasting model. Adjust system pressures to accommodate weather conditions and operating goals.

Monitor and help telemeter problems. Take steps as directed to minimize drastic reductions in pressure caused by line breaks or other unusual occurrences.

Monitor system pipeline quality; take steps as directed to respond to changes.

Help with verification and calculation of the following, including:

  • Receipts

  • Deliveries

  • Storage injections and withdrawals

  • Pipeline system load requirements

  • Transportation imbalances

Help with compiling and preparing information, including:

  • Start/stop of receipt/delivery flows and compressors or pumps

  • Storage injection and withdrawal requests

  • Field personnel call-outs

  • Nomination confirmations and changes

  • Product quality issues

  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) communication problems

Communicate information and instructions related to system operations and contractual obligations to company field personnel, schedulers, and pipeline controllers from other companies.

Use the ONE Gas Communication System (OCS) for the following:

  • Emergency/non-emergency communication

  • Set up conference bridge

  • One-Call center line locates

Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.

Employee may be asked to perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

What You Will Need

Working knowledge of pipeline flow principals and natural gas or natural gas liquids characteristics.

Experience in use and function of office equipment applicable to position including computers.

Ability with application of basic arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. (Tested)

Working knowledge of pipeline system processes, procedures, and equipment such as:

  • Control pressures and flows

  • Curtailment procedures

  • Telecommunications

  • Regulators/relief valves

  • Volumetric measurement meters

  • Apply Btu correction

Working knowledge of and training related to:

  • Basic programming and use of spreadsheets (can perform complex functions) , and word processing applications

  • Company and governmental operating/safety procedures

  • Communications equipment such as two way radios and cellular phones

Experience working and communicating.

Read and interpret rules, regulations, reports, manuals, and contracts.

Compile, prepare, enter, and post information, reports, and correspondence.

Read and write fluently in English.

Operate tools and equipment.

Stationary for extended periods.

Communicate and exchange information and instructions verbally.

Visual abilities to perform job responsibilities.
