Job Description

This position is the lead technical expert on equipment usability, service, and repair. The individual in this role will apply engineering knowledge and techniques to effectively lead and create all technical documentation and materials for Bosch automotive service equipment, with emphasis on air conditioning service products (e.g. Robinair).

  1. Lead all aspects of the development and release of technical documentation and service training materials

  2. Establish and lead overall strategy to ensure optimal service is achieved by field technicians and on-phone technical support.

  3. Effectively apply technical knowledge to address complex equipment design, usability, and repair scenarios. Apply engineering problem solving techniques to assist in resolving known equipment service issues.

  4. Develop and update user manuals, installation guides, service manuals, and other technical documents for Bosch products.

  5. Lead multiple projects that require in-depth technical information.

  6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, product managers and service personnel, to understand equipment behavior, design, and functionality, and apply learnings during development of technical documentation and materials.

  7. Tailor technical content to meet the needs and comprehension levels of various user groups, including technicians, service personnel, and end-users.

  8. Create wiring schematics, system block diagrams, detailed exploded view parts diagrams, parts lists, and process photos.

  9. Ensure all technical documentation complies with industry standards, safety regulations, and legal requirements.

  10. Stay up to date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in technical writing and automotive service tools and equipment, and apply this knowledge to improve documentation and service processes.

Qualifications

Position requires:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field or comparable professional training

  • 5 years of experience in engineering. Preferably in equipment service and repair and development of technical documentation.

  • Preferred: Experience working in the automotive or HVAC industry

  • Strong aptitude in product design, troubleshooting approaches, and problem solving challenging technical problems in equipment use.

  • Strong attention to detail, with excellent grammar, punctuation, and proofreading skills, while showing know-how application of appropriate terminology.

  • Ability to understand and interpret technical information and convey it in a clear, concise manner.

  • Ability to explain theory of operation of electrical, refrigeration, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical systems down to the component level.

  • Ability to work with a team and collaborate with cross-functional team members.

  • Advanced skills in technical writing tools and software, including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat.

  • Knowledge and use with editorial systems similar to Author It and Metadata, preferred.

  • Proficient in ERP systems; SAP, preferred
