Job Description

This position is fully accountable for designing and developing new products, redesigning existing products, overseeing the prototype delivery and testing of products to verify the form, fit, function and quality. The candidate will work closely with a cross functional team to deliver products on-time, on-spec, and on-budget. The candidate will assume full responsibility for all engineering documentation, specifications and required data for the assigned projects. To be successful, the candidate must be innovative, creative, comfortable working from a vision, and comfortable working in a fast-pace environment while handling multiple projects simultaneously.

WHAT YOU WILL DO: WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Responsible for the design and development of plastic components in the business

  • injection molding (std, structural foam, gas assist), roto molding, thermal forming, 3D printing etc.

  • Create 3D plastic design from a 2D industrial design.

  • Design for manufacturability of plastics, such as mold flow and shrink rates.

  • Conceptualize and Design new products/tools to meet customer specifications in a timely, thorough, concise manner utilizing the best of Engineering practices (GD&T, CAD, FMEA, testing, math analysis, etc.)

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration with Global Engineering team.

  • Collection of data from different regions on products and its features.

  • Work in SAP ERP system

  • Create and maintain mechanical CAD models in Solid Works / PDM or Creo / Winchill system

  • Discussion with designers and developers on component designs

  • Create and maintain mechanical CAD models and drawings for products and components.

  • Modify and update system level design documentation as assigned by the Mechanical Engineer

  • Maintain project documentation, i.e. design reviews, design specifications, wiring diagrams, detailed prints.

  • Initiate the creation of parts within our Bosch ERP (SAP)

  • Initiate and coordinate the ECR (Engineering Change Request) process as needed

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND:

  • Bachelor Degree Mechanical Engineering (BSME preferred)

  • 3-5 years Mechanical Engineering experience

  • Proven design skills, utilizing knowledge of similar product, conceptual layouts, locating components, (FEA analysis where required) and 3-D solid modeling.

  • Proficiency in PC skills; CAD (Solidworks or Creo) Microsoft Office (Word, Excel etc) and ERP systems like SAP

  • Proven experience with Bill of Materials, ECO’s, Model shop orders, GD&T, FMEA’s

  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes and understanding DfM principles

DESIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • 2+ years minimum Plastic related design experience.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a cross functional team environment.

  • Experience working with global/international teams also highly desirable.

  • Good oral and written communication skills with solid documentation skills

  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects keeping accurate documentation and records

  • Ability to work well with challenging individuals and customers

  • Creative Problem Solving – proven problem solving ability via design or process

  • Demonstrated ability to produce results and meet commitments

  • Ability/Desire to work in a fast-paced environment; Works with a sense of urgency

  • Not afraid to get their hands dirty - “hands on”
