THIS POSITION IS ON THE OXFORD COLLEGE OF EMORY UNIVERISITY CAMPUS, 36 MILES EAST OF ATLANTA.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Content Writer will collaborate across Oxford College departments to develop engaging content for digital and print platforms, including the website, social media, newsletters, press releases, and promotional materials. This role is pivotal in crafting authentic, compelling narratives that bring to life the vibrant community, rich history, and distinctive experiences of Oxford College. As a creative storyteller, this position will uncover and share the authentic voices of Oxford College -- its students, faculty, alumni, and staff -- to deepen connections with audiences and celebrate the College's unique place within the Emory University community.
Key Responsibilities
Content Development:
Writes and edits content for a variety of platforms, including website pages, blog posts, social media captions, newsletters, and promotional materials.
Leads and manages the daily and biweekly campus-wide newsletter, including writing, obtaining stories, proof reading, organizing submissions, and updating the format. Assists with the development of feature-length articles, profiles, and creative pieces that engage and resonate with diverse audiences. Assists with the development of messages for external audiences (Seney Times, Dean's letter) and internal audience (ListServ emails) letters from the dean.
Occasionally drafts press releases, media advisories, and op-eds to secure media coverage and enhance public relations efforts.
Creative Storytelling:
Identifies and crafts inspiring stories that capture the essence of Oxford College's mission, values, and community impact.
Develops original, narrative-driven content that highlights the achievements, challenges, and aspirations of students, faculty, and alumni.
Infuses creativity into all written materials, transforming facts and data into compelling, relatable stories.
Proactively conducts interviews with students, faculty, staff, and alumni to uncover unique and compelling stories.
Brand Voice and Consistency:
Ensures all written content aligns with Oxford College's distinctive brand voice, mission, and messaging guidelines.
Maintains consistency in tone and style across all communications, balancing academic rigor with approachability and warmth.
Audience Engagement:
Tailors content to effectively engage specific audiences, such as prospective students, parents, alumni, donors, and external partners.
Collaborated with the marketing team to develop innovative storytelling strategies that enhance visibility and engagement.
Editing and Proofreading:
Edits and proofreads content from other team members and departments to ensure accuracy, clarity, and grammatical correctness.
Maintains high standards for content quality and adherence to AP Style or Oxford College's editorial guidelines.
Works with the web designer to publish stories and manage website story content.
Collaboration:
Collaborates with graphic designers, photographers, and videographers to produce multimedia storytelling projects.
Works with the marketing team to analyze content performance and adjust strategies based on data and audience feedback.
Optimizes written materials for SEO to improve online visibility and engagement.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor's degree in English, creative writing, journalism, communications, and three years of professional writing experience, preferably in higher education, nonprofits, or similar environments, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a flair for creative writing. Proven ability to craft authentic and engaging narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
Proficiency in AP Style and familiarity with Emory style guides.
Experience writing for web and social media platforms, with an understanding of SEO best practices.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
