Job Description Summary

 

The Behavioral Health Post-Doctoral Fellow performs the duties of a behavioral (mental) health clinician, providing generalist clinical services to students; training and supervisory services to mental health clinical trainees; and consultation & programming services to faculty, staff, students and parents/families.

 

 

Job Description

Essential Duties:

  • Provides multiculturally informed psychological services, including psychological and substance use assessments, attention problem screenings, and individual and group counseling and psychotherapy to Miami University students presenting with a wide range of mental health concerns
  • Intervenes in crisis and emergency situations of a mental health nature with students, including after hours on-call responsibilities    
  • Consults with faculty, staff, students, families, and other professionals regarding the mental health needs of students
  • Initiates and responds to requests to provide psycho-educational programming to various groups within the university community
  • Provides clinical supervision and training to staff, psychology interns within the SCS APA-accredited psychology internship training program, and other trainees. 
  • Maintains clinical records and provides clinical documentation and communication with external practitioners as necessary for ethical clinical treatment
  • Attends and participates in clinical staff meetings, consultations, and professional development
  • Assumes responsibility for other assignments including serving on divisional and university committees  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a doctoral degree from an APA-accredited doctoral training program and a completed APA-approved internship prior to the position start date. 

     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest and experience in providing psychological services to students of color, non-traditional students, student veterans, students with disabilities and/or student-athletes.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in providing behavioral health services and psycho-educational programming to university students
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and work well in a team setting

     

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience working in mental health counseling/therapy 
  • Experience in crisis assessment/management/intervention, short-term treatment, and confidentiality requirements 
  • Demonstrated skills in working well under pressure to prioritize and manage multiple clinical situations and to coordinate these efforts as a part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging workload while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships
  • Collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect, and trust towards colleagues
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and commitment to multicultural issues/social justice and proven ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups
