Job Overview: A hospital Pharmacy Technician II is a healthcare professional who plays an integral role in the pharmacy operations. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in the distribution of medications to patients in the hospital (inpatient and outpatient units, emergency room, and operating room). The distribution of medications, includes but is not limited to, selecting, counting, compounding, packing, labeling, and delivering medications to the units. A Pharmacy Technician II is responsible for the preparation of sterile compounds and for maintaining the sterile environment in the IV Room. Employees must be proficient in accessing and viewing the electronic health record and utilizing pharmacy automated systems. Employees will work in multiple areas of the pharmacy to maintain competency and broaden skills for all areas of the job scope. Job Requirements: High School Degree or GED Active National Pharm Tech Cert (CPhT) is required Approved cert is through Pharm Tech Cert Board (PCTB) and ExCPT Cert by the National Healthcareer Association Active registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician Up to 1 year experience Technical Pharmacy Experience must be as a Pharmacy Technician I to be eligible to move into the Pharmacy Technician II position. Job Responsibilities: Assists the pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of compounded sterile products (TPN, epidurals, PCA, drips, antibiotics, fluids, and NICU medications) while following current guidelines (USP 797, USP 800, ASHP, NIOSH, Board of Pharmacy laws and regulations) and department procedures, assembling appropriate and necessary supplies for preparation. Accurately mixes and labels sterile products according to policy. Performs hand hygiene/garbing and cleaning/disinfecting of the hoods and room according to policy and keeps accurate cleaning logs. Understands and demonstrates aseptic technique. Prioritizes IV medication production and disposes of IV waste. Assists in non-sterile medication preparation by selecting, counting, compounding, packaging, scanning, labeling, filling, and delivering medications per department guidelines. Selects the appropriate medications and accurately labels. Weighs, measures, and mixes ingredients by using proper calculations, equipment, and technique. Works Automated Dispensing Machine, able to load/refill/unload, outdate, and resolve discrepancies. Stock Orders/Emergency Carts/Boxes: and accurately fills in a timely manner. Accurately and efficiently transports medications from the pharmacy to areas outside of the pharmacy (tubing, cart delivery, IV Run, STAT, etc.). Responsible for maintaining an accurate controlled substances (CII-CV) inventory and for reviewing and maintaining controlled substance records. Immediately reports unresolved controlled discrepancies to a supervisor.
