Job Description

The Material Handler is responsible for the movement of material throughout the site. This may include loading/unloading of trucks and movement of raw materials, work in process, and finished goods. This role is located in Painesville Ohio, reporting to the Finishing Team Manager. 

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Move material to/from raw, WIP, Finished, Shipping, Receiving, and manufacturing areas. 

  • Unload/load trucks with incoming/outgoing materials. - Verify materials against receiving/shipping documents. 

  • Complete appropriate transactions to document the movement of material within the Inventory Management System.

  • Support inventory accuracy: Complete warehouse and departmental cycles counts and correct discrepancies and help manage winding drum and rack inventories

  • Raw/Finishing warehouse: Pick up and transfer material racks, pallets, and other consumable supplies to/from production areas as required. Condense warehouse space and maintain good housekeeping

  • Perform all assignments, duties, and tasks in a safe manner following standard procedures and practices. Encourage others to do so. Correct and/or report all unsafe conditions immediately. 

  • Perform duties to continuously improve quality and productivity.

  • Assist in equipment maintenance activities as directed. 

  • Communicate and coordinate necessary information to appropriate department/shift employees to ensure effective operations. 

  • Lead in the recycling of pallets, cardboard, and scrap materials. 

  • Support all daily 5S housekeeping activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) or 3+ years of relevant manufacturing work experience.

  • Able to follow written and oral instruction. 

  • Regard safety as a core value; serve as a role model for other employees and encourage adherence to safety practices, policies, and procedures. 

  • Strong service and quality focus; address issues effectively when problems arise and take initiative to understand root cause, then communicate / education team in a timely manner.

  • Able to actively contribute in a team-based environment; encourage open communication and positive interaction with peers and management to effectively reach a common goal. 

  • Demonstrate proficiency in essential tasks of the job and a willingness to learn and share knowledge; must take initiative to cross-train and sustain acquired skills. 

  • Demonstrated record of flexibility and dependability in order to support production and customer focus. 

  • Able and willing to work overtime, including short-notice requests. 

  • Demonstrate proficiency with computer applications, especially strong inventory tracking system transactional skills. Must be able to obtain Lift Truck Operator's license. 

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
