As part of its separation from Carrier, the Commercial and Residential Fire business is building its tax department. This presents an excellent opportunity for a motivated and strategic thinker to assume the Director of Tax Reporting and Compliance role within the Tax organization.

About This Role

This individual will lead the team that is responsible for all tax reporting and compliance across the enterprise including the annual federal and state returns, annual and quarterly financial statements, management reporting, and related quantitative analyses.

This role represents the opportunity to help build and shape the future of our tax department. In addition to having high visibility within the tax department and reporting directly to the head of tax, this person will also regularly interface with leaders in other departments across the company. This role will supervise one to two positions that will assist with reporting and compliance responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Tax compliance responsibilities include:

  • Oversee U.S. Federal, International, and State as well as non-U.S. income tax compliance processes

  • Oversee indirect tax compliance including sales and use tax and property tax

  • Assist in developing annual and long-range tax plan and year-end closing processes

  • Manage tax compliance systems’ requirements and planning

  • Coordinate compliance co-sourcing or outsourcing resources

  • Support tax modeling process

  • Support tax audits, as necessary

  • Maintain Sarbanes-Oxley controls’ requirements

Tax reporting responsibilities include:

  • ASC 740 reporting, including all requisite analyses, disclosures, and management communications

  • Identification and implementation of planning opportunities

  • Year-end closing process and provision to compliance integration

  • Annual Tax Plan and quarterly reforecasts/updates

  • Cash tax and ETR modeling

  • ASC 740 planning with respect to transactional activity

  • ASC 740 review with external auditors

  • ASC 740 process/software continuous improvement

  • Dividend Review & APB 23 Analysis

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Economics

  • 10+ years of tax compliance experience in a large, multi-national, corporate tax or accounting firm environment

  • 3+ years of supervisory responsibility in tax compliance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced tax degree/MST a plus

  • Experience with tax compliance software and HFM software

  • Understand major steps in compliance process, from data sourcing through filing and tax account activity

  • In-depth understanding of tax systems’ capabilities

  • Ability to identify and implement continuous process improvements

  • Understand impact of income taxes on the financial statements, and identify opportunities to combine tax and accounting knowledge to improve business results

  • Operative understanding of tax cycle from planning through audit

  • Ability to understand complex tax concepts and recognize the need for internal or external subject matter expertise

  • Working knowledge of all major areas of tax law affecting the company
