Responsibilities You will utilize journey-level trade skills primarily in the following two trades at the WG-10 level: Air Conditioning (A/C) Equipment Mechanic, and Heating and Boiler Equipment Mechanic. You will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair large systems that provide for a variety of A/C functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, and circulation. You will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of complex industrial equipment and systems involving power steam, high, medium, and low pressure and temperature boilers using specialized test equipment. You will test systems, and you will review and adjust system controls using Direct Digital Control (DDC) computer systems. You will interpret building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the work and skill to use trade formulas to calculate common properties. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF AN A/C AND HEATING & BOILER EQUIPMENT MECHANIC WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION performing duties such as: 1) Applying a variety of trade practices (e.g., Boiler, Heating, or A/C repair) to plan, layout, and complete the installation, modification, and repair of facility equipment; 2) Install A/C direct expansion and chilled-water systems, test systems for proper functioning, and review and adjust system controls using Direct Digital Control (DDC) computer systems; 3) Visual checks of and maintenance on boilers, heating, and A/C systems to determine causes of defects on equipment; 4) Reading and interpreting detailed equipment blueprints, electrical schematics, drawings, and specifications for proper installation and maintenance requirements of Boiler, Heating, and A/C systems.
