Job Duties

Perform all required diagnostic MRI scanning procedures through proper positioning and technique, consistently demonstrating good judgment in evaluating the diagnostic studies.Screen patient before exam for any precautions or contraindications pertaining to the examination (i.e. pain, claustrophobia, metallic objects, isolation patients, etc.). Obtain and review the requisition for examination to obtain information such as procedure requested, clinical history, patient condition or any other special requirements.Thoroughly explain procedure to be performed to alleviate patient anxiety and facilitate patient cooperation. Monitor the condition of any patient within the department and assist the radiologist in performing needed medical attention, if applicable.Maintain the MR scanning equipment in good operating order. Clean and disinfect equipment and area after each use. Maintain work area in an orderly manner. Check to ensure any emergency equipment is in good working order. Report any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdowns to responsible supervisor.Conduct examinations with regard to patient’s age, condition or other special requirements.Comply with company operational and safety policies and procedures. Comply with hospital policies, procedures and emergency response procedures, where applicable.Routinely prepare examination for interpretation by the radiologist to include correct identification and image processing, adequate clinical history and other relevant image studies for comparison (if available).Assist radiologist during the administration of contrast media and practice medical aseptic procedures as required. Recognize allergic reactions and respond in accordance to company policies and procedures for emergent patient care.Assist with patient scheduling and patient preparation required prior to examination.Customer Service: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience and helpfulness. All responses should be timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with Customer Service Performance expectationsMaintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Assesses gaps in policies and procedures and create necessary policies and procedures to fill these gaps.Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.Familiar with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.

Other DutiesWorking knowledge applicable to MR scanning technology with specific references to cross-sectional anatomy, medical and surgical disease, and scientific principles as applied to MRI scanning.Patient care standards and requirements.Quality assurance principles and practices.Informs appropriate personnel when equipment is in need of repair.Fulfills all continuing education requirements specified by regulatory agencies and Medical Center standards.Performs other related duties as required.

Position QualificationsOperate and adjust MR scanning and ancillary equipment.Schedule, organize and monitor patient flow to meet company productivity, quality, health and safety standards.Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, medical staff and co-workers.Maintain the confidentiality of patient records and complete administrative records, reports.Schedule, organize and complete work in accordance with required workloads.Read, interpret and follow internal quality standards and government regulations.Understand and follow specifications and instructions.Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies.Good interpersonal skills.Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.At least one year’s experience as a MRI Technologist and advanced certification in MRI preferred.

EducationAssociates degree in applied science or graduate of an accredited hospital-based program. Bachelor’s degree preferred.New Jersey license in RadiographyARRT (R) or ARMRIT Certification.American Heart Association Heart saver CPR/AED certification required.Job Setting/Physical DemandsDiagnostic Imaging Department; contact with staff, patients, vendors, suppliers, application specialists and service engineers.Lifts, positions and/or transfers patients.Frequent prolonged standing.Lifts/moves x-ray equipment.Protective clothing worn gloves, gown, lead apron.
