Saw Vacuum Form Operator

The Saw Vacuum Form Operator sets up and operate machine tools such as vacuum box or friction saw to form and/or cut metallic and nonmetallic work pieces to blueprint tolerance.

    Job Summary

  • Vertical high speed friction saw.

  • Lay out of parts by scribing net lines and cutting within .100 of lines.

  • Order blueprints and fixtures to determine net areas of parts.

  • Grind and deburr all parts so they can be handled safely at next operation.

  • Change broken blades as needed.

  • Maintain clean and organized work area per 6s check list.

  • Vacuum Forming – sets up and operates vacuum press to form sheet metal into structural shapes.

  • Loads and unloads parts and dies into vacuum press.

  • Starts and stops chart recorder that records time and temperature.

  • Obtains quality buyoff on parts and chart record.

  • Checks own work and takes first part to quality inspection.

  • Able to adjust process for additional parts to keep within control limits for SPC as needed.

  • Collects SPC data according to the control plan attached to the work order.

  • Cross trained in Blast dept.

  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Skills & Qualifications

    Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to operate a forklift.

  • Ability to use measuring instruments including but not limited to calipers, protractor, tape measure, height gage, and scales.

    Required Experience

  • Prior operation of machinery helpful.

  • Read and understand internal procedures and policies.

  • Understand and follow through on both verbal and written instructions.

  • Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook.

  • Basic Computer Skills - able to learn new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance.

  • High School Diploma; up to 3 years related experience in job function and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Math Skills – decimals, percentages, fractions.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and Mylar’s.

  • Basic Computer Skills - able to learn new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance.

    Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively.

  • Regularly required to stand; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.

  • Frequently required to walk.

  • Annual baseline hearing test is required.

  • Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.

  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Working conditions are: 100% manufacturing environment.

  • Regularly required to work near moving mechanical parts.

  • Regularly exposed to vibration of the hand.

  • Noise level is usually moderate to loud.

  • Occasionally exposed to extreme heat.

  • Hearing protection must be worn when operating saw, grinding and deburring as well as in other designated areas in the shop.

  • Face shield is required when operating saw, grinding and deburring.

  • Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.

  • Safety Footwear shall be in accordance with the following: ASTM standard F2413-05 with minimum impact resistance, compression resistance and metatarsal designation ratings of 75 foot pounds (i.e. ASTM F2413-05 I/75 C/75 Mt/75), which are viewable on the inside tag of footwear.
