Job Title: IBM i System Administrator Division: Precision Pulley & Idler (PPI)

FLSA: Exempt Grade:

Job Status: Full-time Travel Required: 0-5%

Revision Date: June 11, 2024 Reports To: Software Architect

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Administrates and maintains IBM i/System i/AS400 systems. Responsible for managing daily operations including, but not limited to, system maintenance, performance monitoring, operator exception handling, software installation and upgrades, general troubleshooting, system automation, and backup and restore operations. Manages and maintains additional IBM i systems, and their replication activities, for alternate server operation locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

More specifically, the person will:

  • Oversee all aspects of the IBM i including configuration and maintenance

  • Administrate and interact with aspects of DB2

  • Perform system backups and recovery

  • Install, upgrade, and patch software as needed

  • Automate aspects of administration when reasonable

  • Provide user community support

  • Conduct research and education related to position and needs of the organization

  • Interact with, and support, software development activities, including developer operations

  • Interact with, and support, PC technicians

  • Be required to travel on occasion

  • Perform extra assignments in other areas and related task assignments in the work area

  • Independently balance multiple concurrent assignments with shifting priorities

  • Communicate positively with supervisors, fellow workers, and internal/external customers

  • Sharp troubleshooting and critical thinking skills

  • Proficient in CL and RPG programming languages

  • Proficient in SQL or native IBM i Queries

  • Ability to write CL programs

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently

  • Driven, motivated and reliable team player

  • Ability to do physical work as needed for setup and deployment of hardware

EDUCATION – EXPERIENCE – COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Two years of technical education/training, or

  • Four plus years of experience; or

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be able to frequently stoop/bend.

  • Must be able to regularly use hands and arms.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision.

  • Specific hearing abilities required for this job include the ability to hear equipment alarms and the ability to hear instructions from others.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually MODERATE.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), outdoor weather conditions and extreme heat (non-weather).

  • The employee is in an office and training center setting.

  • Steel-toe safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection when in production environments.
