THE POSITION

Are you a skilled Civil Engineer with a passion for bridge design? The Department of Transportation has an exciting opportunity for you in Lycoming County! We are currently seeking a talented individual to join our Bridge Design Unit as a Civil Engineer specializing in bridges. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and overseeing the construction of various bridge and highway structures. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As part of this role, your main responsibility will be to utilize the latest design methodology and technology to create bridge replacement and/or rehabilitation projects that are not only safe, but also easy to construct and maintain. It will be crucial for you to ensure that these projects are accurate and completed within the specified timeframe and budgetary constraints.

Effective communication and collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders will be essential in order to meet the defined scope of work for bridge projects. This will involve regular interaction with clients and colleagues to ensure that their requirements are met and any concerns or issues are addressed promptly.

This position requires a strong understanding of structural design theory and analysis methods, as you will be applying these principles to your work. While you will have a certain level of autonomy in your tasks, you will also receive periodic guidance and feedback from your supervisor to ensure the quality and accuracy of your work.

Additionally, part of your role will involve training and mentoring junior staff members, providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles. This will contribute to the overall growth and development of the team.

It is important to note that proficiency in designing various structural materials, such as reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, structural steel, and timber, is a requirement for this position. Your expertise in these areas will be crucial in creating robust and reliable bridge projects.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.

  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time upon successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or

  • Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (commonwealth title); or

  • One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; or

  • Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline
