THE POSITION

Advance your career within the Department of General Services! We are looking for dependable Custodial Worker 2s to exercise lead-worker capabilities by providing guidance and direction to lower-level personnel while performing cleaning of offices, restrooms, and other public areas. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Custodial Worker 2, you will serve as a lead-worker over lower-level personnel in the performance of a variety of custodial duties. Specific duties include distributing the required equipment and appropriate supplies to the crew and ensuring assignments are properly performed. You will be responsible for providing orientation to new employees regarding job duties and assigned work areas, instructing new employees on the proper use and care of equipment, detergents, disinfectants, and chemicals, as well as proper cleaning methods and procedures.

In this role, you will operate, use, make minor repairs, and perform routine preventative maintenance to small cleaning machines, such as buffers, floor scrubbers, extractors, vacuums, and more. All major equipment problems are to be reported to the immediate supervisor. You will be required to inform the supervisor of supply and equipment needs, and ensure that all items are stored and utilized in a safe and orderly manner. This position is also responsible for conducting monthly safety inspections and reporting findings to the supervisor. Additional duties include:

  • Cleaning restrooms, office spaces, and public areas, and ensuring that an adequate amount of restroom supplies are available for use

  • Handling trash and recycling materials in addition to operating and maintaining cleaning equipment

  • Dusting, mopping, vacuuming, moving, and polishing furniture and fixtures, as well as cleaning windows, walls, doors, and other surfaces throughout the building

  • Completing snow and ice removal as necessary

  • Exercising diligence in reporting unauthorized personnel and ensuring security measures are followed before leaving

    Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.

  • This position is considered essential. You will be required to report to work during emergencies and office closings.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Custodial Worker 1 (commonwealth title);or

  • One year of experience performing custodial work.

    Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
