DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will oversee permitting within the public water supply program. Your responsibilities will encompass aiding in the development, revision, and maintenance of the Department’s design manuals, regulations, forms, and technical guidance documents pertinent to public water system permitting. This role operates under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer. Additionally, the position entails assessing lead and copper corrosion control technologies and ensuring simultaneous compliance with permits, as well as offering training and technical support related to these permitting processes to the regulated community, engineering consultants, and Department personnel. The work typically involves navigating a range of complex elements, including the interpretation of intricate regulatory requirements, the application of advanced engineering design principles and standards, and a comprehensive understanding of public water supply treatment systems and technologies. This role plays a vital part in advancing the public health and safety goals of the SDW Program by ensuring that public water systems are effectively planned, designed, constructed, and operated in alignment with the Safe Drinking Water Act and its regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are negotiable between 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,678 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the training program for Environmental Engineering Trainee; or

  • Two years of professional experience in environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or

  • One year of professional experience in environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists ; or

  • One year of professional experience in environmental engineering, and a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or in any engineering field that includes or is supplemented by 9 credits in environmental engineering .

  • Graduate study in environmental engineering or in a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

    Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currentlywaived for this title.
