DESCRIPTION OF WORK
A Veterans Services Officer is responsible for the management and maintenance of claims for veteran benefits and services. You will assist with initiating claims and following them through until completion of final determination. Good communication skills are necessary to correspond with medical professionals to validate claims and process appeals to claims. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to s peak before community groups and organizations to explain veterans programs.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 45-minute lunch.
Some overnight travel may be required.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, reporting to the office at least 5 days per pay period after completing training and certification. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Five years of experience in analyzing and determining individuals' eligibility for public benefits or services programs; or
One year as a Veterans Services Specialist, DMVA (commonwealth title); or
One year of experience in analyzing and determining individuals' eligibility for public benefits or services programs and a bachelor's degree in human services, business administration, public administration, or a related field;or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
This position is required to possess valid accreditation by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as a veterans service officer or eligibility for accreditation within one year from the date of employment.
Additional Requirements:
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
One year experience as a Veterans Services Specialist, DMVA
Experience analyzing and determining individuals eligibility for public benefit programs
Experience with veterans benefits and services programs
Experience analyzing and determining individuals eligibility for veterans benefits and services programs
Completion of military service in a branch of the United States Armed Forces and separation under honorable conditions
Possession of a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial class C driver's license or equivalent
Valid accreditation or eligibility for accreditation by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as a veterans service officer
