Owens State Community College Applicant Pool for Adjunct Faculty, Clinical Teaching Assistant, Nursing in Perrysburg, Ohio
The part-time nursing clinical faculty member works at the direction of the full-time faculty member and plans, directs, instructs and evaluates the learning experiences of nursing students in the clinical setting, communicates with full-time faculty whenever student performance is questionable or substandard and provides student evaluation information to the full-time faculty member. The adjunct communicates student learning outcomes and course goals to healthcare agency personnel, collaborates with healthcare agency personnel to create opportunities for the development of student critical and reflective thinking and decision making. Follows Nursing Program policies and attends Nursing Clinical Faculty meetings.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Working knowledge of current clinical practice in area of nursing expertise (eg: medical/surgical, OB, Peds, mental health) Practice is grounded in educational and nursing theory as evidenced by minimum preparation of Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree.
Leads by example: demonstrates critical thinking and clinical reasoning; Encourages growth of future nurses through consistent evaluation and constructive feedback, nurturing, and student advocacy, and has the ability to understand and use the equipment present in a hospital setting.
Communicates in a timely, professional manner with clinical agency staff and College personnel Considers clients' needs and safety in relationship to student learning experiences. Must be able to make quick decisions, make decisions under pressure, multi-task. Must be able to provide safe patient care. Must be able to provide site patient care.?
Essential Functions:
Meets and maintains agency requirements for orientation to clinical site and unit; facilitates orientation for students.
Functions as a role model for nursing by demonstrating a calm, professional demeanor, ethical behavior, personal accountability, a strong work ethic, and collaboration as part of the healthcare team.
Under the direction of faculty: plans, directs, instructs, and evaluates learning experiences for students in the clinical laboratory setting under the direction of faculty. Considers clients' needs when planning student learning experiences.
Identifies individual learning styles and develops strategies appropriate to the adult learner, using educational theory and evidence-based practice.
Communicates educational course goals and outcomes to nursing agency personnel. Posts schedules and inner rotation forms in a timely manner.
Collaborates with agency staff to create opportunities to develop critical reasoning skills; models critical and reflective thinking.
Evaluates students' progress, communicating effectively and constructively with students throughout the experience. Uses extreme tact in front of patients and demonstrates personal attributes (e.g., caring, confidence, compassion, flexibility, integrity) that facilitate learning.
Communicates with full-time nursing faculty whenever student performance is questionable or substandard. Collaborates with full-time faculty to provide optimal conditions for student success.
Follows Nursing program policies; submits student evaluations on time, maintains communication via email and interoffice mail.
Attends Part-time Nursing Clinical Faculty meetings.
