Summary :

  • Reporting to the SVP, Data and Technology Solutions of the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS), the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) plays a critical role as the bridge between Information Systems, Information Technology, Data Analytics and UPHS clinical teams.

  • The CMIO will partner with clinicians, IT and Data Analytics staff and administrators to improve overall patient and provider experience by participating in technology selection, implementation and governance. The CMIO is expected to organize and lead a team of providers with medical informatics expertise across the system in order to provide broad engagement of the medical provider community in IT and Data related systems.

  • Serves in a highly visible leadership role, working collaboratively across the enterprise and externally to design effective technology strategies in order for clinicians to deliver excellent patient care. Represents Penn Medicine at appropriate national venues related to medical informatics.

Responsibilities:

  • The CMIO partners with IT to evaluate organizational systems, specifically the electronic medical record (EMR) and ensures that system design changes and technical builds are in line with clinical needs.

  • The CMIO will provide clinical perspective to ensure patient care remains consistent across various systems. Promotes patient safety and quality care through technology use.

  • The CMIO will analyze health information trends to improve applications and system quality, driving efficiency in daily operations.

  • Ensures that clinical teams are trained in using IS applications, specifically, the EMR. Ensures that patient data is protected.

  • Ensure risk reduction efforts in the EMR and develops improvements to reduce malpractice risk.

  • Ensures that all health information technology systems are in compliance with laws, regulations and clinical standards.

  • Stays informed about the latest developments in healthcare technology and drives efforts that keep UPHS in the forefront of healthcare technology.

  • Serves on multiple internal committees including IT governance, CITG, CMO-CNO, PMMG, ISPEC, new technology review AI/Data governance, liability oversight.

Credentials:

  • Medical Doctor is required.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in healthcare in an academic health system within a competitive market is required.

  • 5+ years of experience leading healthcare teams is required.

  • Master's Degreeis required.

  • Doctor of Medicineis required.
