Job Description Summary

The Abramson Cancer Center (ACC) of the University of Pennsylvania is a world leader in developing and conducting innovative clinical trials for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. The mission of the ACC Clinical Research Unit (CRU) is to advance the science of cancer care, serve our patients by improving clinical outcomes, and offer the best available innovative care to trial participants. The ACC CRU is instrumental in the development and implementation of cancer clinical trials that offer cutting-edge oncology treatments. The ACC CRU is currently comprised of 12 Research Teams that support disease/discipline specific cancer programs within the ACC. This Project Manager will be part of the ACC CRU-Cell Therapy & Transplant Research Team.

Responsible for all aspects of the Bone and Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network (BMT CTN) protocols including day to day management of research projects and all communications with collaborators both internal and external to Penn. With limited oversight from the Principal Investigator and the Cell Therapy & Transplant (CTT) Director of Clinical Research Operations, the Research Project Manager will take a leadership role in managing the detailed operations of all BMT CTN projects, coordinating activities in single center and multicenter studies (including international sites), instituting quality assurance and quality control measures for analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, developing and overseeing the compliance with standardized operating procedures, assisting with protocol implementation as well as grant applications when applicable. The Project Manager will help develop the team's research strategy, operational practices, and logistics. The Project Manager will ensure the safety of research participants by overseeing completion of required trainings of staff and providing supervision and support to all those involved in the conduct of BMT CTN studies. It may be necessary for the Project Manager to conduct study visits including collecting required specimens for assigned studies. The Project Manager will conduct ongoing performance appraisals for staff under their supervision. The Project Manager will also be responsible for coordinating grant applications by communicating with funding administrators and the University Business Office. The Project Manager independently communicates with internal and external stakeholders and other collaborators regarding activities related to data collection and project findings. The Project Manager may play a primary role in other dissemination activities related to project findings.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage single and/or multi-site clinical research projects (including study start up, daily operations, external site communications, recruitment and enrollment, and troubleshooting; QA& QC; study close out activities).

  • Develop, create and review regulatory submission and study documents/tools, including protocols, consents, annual reports, source docs, training slides, MOPs, DSMB charter, CRFs, SOPs. Provide assistance with IND/IDE/CTA exemption determinations.

  • Assist/conduct pre-award finance activities (MRA/MCA development, CTMS registration, RBN, driving contract timelines, budgeting input or development, grant writing assistance); and/or post award finance activities (invoicing, billing review)

  • Staff supervision: Train direct and/or indirect research staff in CTT procedures as required per protocol(s). Includes onboarding and training, data and lab management, protocol compliance and QC/QA, human subjects protection and GCP, and project assignments/staff mentoring/biannual performance appraisal completion

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned

Qualifications

  • Effective problem-solving abilities; effective communication and writing skills; strong organizational and time management skills; flexible and able to multi-task; demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently; knowledge of IRB and human research protection regulations.

Bachelor’s degree required and 5-7 years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience); or Master’s degree and 3-5years of related experience. Oncology clinical research experience preferred.
