Acelero Learning Director of Finance in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

We are seeking a dedicated and collaborative leader to join us as the Director of Finance. The Director of Finance will work closely with the Vice President and Support Center Finance team to maintain the organizational Finance system in accordance with Federal and State regulations. This position will effectively track all funds received by the agency and process all accounts payable and receivable. The Director of Finance will also ensure fiscal integrity and compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and OMB circulars through the implementation of sound internal controls and adherence with fiscal policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a financial strategic lead for Acelero Learning, supporting the Vice President on analysis, forecasting, and budgeting initiatives.

  • Contributes to an organizational environment and culture ensuring compli-ance with all fiscal policies and expected timelines.

  • Provides strategic support and ensures strong processes around program revenue dynamics, including the strategy around in-kind/non-federal share sources, state pre-K, Extended Day profitability and collections, CACFP, and other state and local funding opportunities.

  • Collaborates closely with the centralized Finance team, including controllers, budget leads, and executive leadership.

  • Provides fiscal data to the centralized Finance team and assists in the preparation, review, and finalization of monthly financial statements.

  • Leads the development of local program budgets prior to submission of individual program grant applications, in close collaboration with the central budgeting team.

  • Ensures appropriate involvement and input from the Vice President and key senior leadership team members on the development and refinement of all programmatic budgets.

  • Stays abreast of all grant requirements (e.g., Office of Head Start, Pennsylvania Office of Child Development and Early Learning, local school districts, etc.).

  • Ensures that all reports and records are maintained accurately and promptly.

  • Audits payroll reports each pay cycle to ensure accuracy and compliance across funding sources.

  • Engages and trains field staff to institute accurate and timely processes for tracking and approving employee time in compliance with all contractual requirements.

  • Maintains proper documentation of all expenditures for reimbursements, petty cash, and purchase orders (e.g., receipts).

  • Maintains fiscal documentation files for all required monthly and quarterly financial reports.

  • Forwards accurate accounts payable and accounts receivable records to the Shared Services team for processing and tracks processing.

  • Compiles documentation for all audits in accordance with established timelines.

  • Maintains documentation of all insurance (e.g., liability).

  • Ensures that all procurement and accounting transactions are done properly and in accordance with Federal and State regulations.

  • Reviews all purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and reimbursements from employees to ensure that they are completed accurately.

  • Processes check requests with the Finance team and tracks completion of all requests to ensure that all invoices and employee requests are completed accurately and timely.

  • Manages petty cash system by distributing petty cash to employees as needed and ensuring sufficient funds for all requests in accordance with fiscal policies and procedures.

  • Ensures that all Extended Day funds are collected and submitted to the Finance team in a timely manner.

  • Reviews all Extended Day documentation to verify accuracy and works with center-based leadership to address discrepancies.

  • Participates in assigned meetings, events, and training as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, fiscal management, or a related field required; CPA preferred.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in account analysis/reconciliation and financial reporting; public accounting experience a plus.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience required.

  • Head Start experience, or experience in a similarly regulated, compliance-heavy environment preferred.

  • Experience with Oracle Netsuite or similar software and report generation preferred.

  • Physical exam and background checks are required for this position.

  • Travel required locally or long-distance up to 10% of the time for work-related meetings and functions.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to think strategically and effectively synthesize information in order to make decisions and recommendations for the program.

  • Ability to produce GAAP basis financials via financial software.

  • Ability to effectively manage vendor relationships.

  • Demonstrated record of success in supervision and capacity-building within and across teams.

  • Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills, especially using Google Suite apps; spreadsheets, basic data management systems, and internet navigation.

  • Must be honest, dependable, and able to meet deadlines.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
