The Public Safety Manager is a highly capable security manager who will and implement security strategies at Nazareth. The manager is a forward-thinker who will be creating security policies and procedures, controlling budgets for security operations, and coordinating security staff. Provides professional leadership, administrative and management direction, support, and oversight for Public Safety Supervisors and staff. Educates public safety officers in de-escalation, security procedures, and appropriate response to emergencies on a continuous basis. Serves as the operational point of contact for campus security issues and assists other departments with security-related occurrences and concerns. Works in leadership to maintain a safe campus environment and appropriately respond to emergency events. Hospital campus includes the main hospital and outpatient buildings, it's employees, patients/families, visitors, and property. Security manager serves on the Environment of Care Committee, Emergency Management Committee, and the workplace violence committee.

Department Management:

Manages the day-to-day functions of the Public Safety Department including scheduling, timekeeping, absence management, education/training, recruiting, and other supervisory duties.

Ensures proper public safety response to emergencies or codes

Maintains fiscal responsibility by controlling costs and expenses

Develops, implements, reviews, revises, and submits for approval, departmental policies and protocols that support the safety and security of the facility as well as appropriate activity of the Security resources.

Fosters a culture of safety among public safety colleagues

Proactively investigates security vulnerabilities and implements changes to correct areas of improvement

Planning and implementing comprehensive security strategies.

Maintains, monitors the use of, and educates staff on proper use of Security

Investigates and resolves incidents of unusual circumstances reported by hospital staff, visitors, physicians, or patients. Demonstrates good investigation/interview techniques.

Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful conditions.

Acts as liaison between Security Officers and the Regional Director of Security and Emergency Management.

Assists in developing, reviewing, and participating in security training for hospital staff, including new employee orientation, ongoing education in high-risk areas, etc.

Plans and implements training programs for Security Officers to achieve performance standards including any new policies, procedures, equipment, or techniques. Documents education ensuring that education is current and up to date.

Participates in performance improvement and information management programs.

Attends annual review and performs departmental and hospital-wide in services, as needed.

Responsible for completing evaluations of direct reports as well as review/approval of other Security personnel. Responsible for the reviewing, discussing, and approving scheduled evaluations of new staff. Conducts and approves corrective actions for security personnel.

Resolves staff concerns at the department level, utilizing the Culture of Safety process as required.

Patrol tours: Coordinates the Patrol of buildings and grounds, inspection of doors and locks to determine the safe level of security

Patrols parking areas to detect any irregularities and enforces parking regulations.

Responds to emergency calls using a patient-centric approach and de-escalation techniques.

Greets and directs visitors and employees in a professional and courteous manner.

May assume responsibility (be designated as) campus Emergency Management Manager and assume responsibility for providing direction for emergency management planning, training, and event response to include business continuity and recovery initiatives.

Requirements:

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or related field is required. Equivalent years of military service in a related Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) will satisfy this requirement.

  • Valid motor vehicle license required with satisfactory driving record. Must be able to obtain Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVO) license within one year of employment.

  • CPR and AED certification required within 6 months of employment.

  • Prior law enforcement experience preferred.

  • Must have ten years' experience in the field of law enforcement and/or security, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous Hospital leadership experience preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated abilities in crisis management, including willingness and ability to perform alone or as a team member in the management of aggressive or violent behavior.

  • Possess the ability to deal tactfully with colleagues, patients and visitors.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of safety and security management, security preventive practices, investigatory practices, and related legal responsibilities
