Summary of Position: (Brief description of overall responsibilities and function)

The Director of Technology & Innovation (T&I) has overall responsibility for managing a portfolio of Leonardo Helicopters Research & Technology projects related to Tiltrotor Technology and U.S. Government Business Development.  This position will serve in multiple roles as Technology Planning Coordinator, Operations Analyst, and Technology & Intellectual Property (IP) Management Coordinator under the Director, with accountability for supporting and coordinating technology planning, operations analysis, and intellectual property management, as well as university and strategic supplier outreach with other organizations across Leonardo.   This position may also oversee project execution for a portfolio of projects arising from those outreach efforts in collaboration with the T&I project manager.  

Dependent on skill and experience level, additional responsibilities may include technical participation in research & technology projects to develop innovative vertical lift design solutions, technologies, and methodologies.  This position also supports input and updates to technology roadmaps and business capture campaigns.

A significant portion of the position responsibilities includes the development and coordination of modeling and simulation analyses intended to evaluate the operational capabilities of Leonardo aircraft in a military operational context.

As part of these responsibilities, this position will engage outside organizations to collect, analyze, and assess technology development efforts that align or support Leonardo long term program and technology development strategies.

This position may include access to certain technology and/or software source code that are subject to U.S. export control laws and certain U.S. DoD data that is subject to ITAR restrictions.  U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a US DOD security clearance is required for applicants for this position.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing plans and processes for and conducting modeling and simulation of rotorcraft in military operational contexts.
  • Supporting network engagement with outside organizations, following through on relationship development efforts and connecting external and internal focals, as required
  • Researching key trends in relevant technologies and identifying key resources to initiate and build collaborative technology plans and activities with while aligning to internal technology roadmaps and strategies.
  • Identifying, supporting, or initiating contract opportunities with outside organizations where there is mutual interest and ben fit.
  • Coordinating inputs to the annual technology roadmap process and related company-wide budgeting and planning processes, including support to internal skill and staffing planning activities.
  • Developing and implementing AWPC IP capabilities (i.e., patent filing, prosecution, patent maintenance).
  • Coordinating the IP Correspondent Network to map, protect and exploit any IP generated within AWPC.
  • Acting as the point of contact for Legal, Business, Engineering, Finance for any issue that requires IP analysis.
  • Spreading a culture of IP creation/improvement/protection providing dedicated training sessions.

 Accountability:

  • Reports directly to the Director of Technology and Innovation and collaborates with technology managers and engineering team members in program centers.
  • Coordinates with Legal, and Corporate Intellectual Property Management focals to support timely processing of IP management duties, as described.

     Qualifications for Position:

  1. Education
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in an ABET-accredited/recognized Engineering discipline.
  1. Experience
  • Five to seven (5-7) years of experience in the modeling and simulation of aircraft in a military operational context is strongly preferred.
  • One to three (1-3) years of experience in development of aircraft or aerospace systems. Experience with Intellectual Property Management processes is preferred.
  • One to three (1-3) years of experience in the execution of multidisciplinary/cross-functional projects.
  1. Competencies & Attributes
  • Demonstrated skill with the tools of operations research and analysis of military rotorcraft.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with all basic Microsoft Office tools, with emphasis on MS Project (or similar tool, such as Primavera P6 and other PM tool experience).
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills in a dynamic environment; ability to facilitate complex activities across diverse stakeholders in an international, multicultural environment.
