Experience & Requirements
Must be a graduate of medical school and have completed an appropriate psychiatric residency.
Must have 1 year Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry
Corrections experience preferred.
Must be licensed to practice in the applicable state and certified by the Office of Mental Health to provide psychiatric services in a licensed inpatient unit. Current DEA number will need to be provided.
A background check, security clearance and drug screening are required for this role.

Responsibilities
Below is a list of your responsibilities as a Forensic Psychiatrist with YesCare located at the Philadelphia prisons comducting competency evaluations on a PRN basis.
A forensic psychiatrist is responsible for assessing the mental health, emotional, and behavioral factors relevant to legal cases. This position will provide expert opinions, consultation, and testimony in court proceedings to help inform legal decisions. They will provide diagnostic evaluation and treatment to patients on the Competency/Restoration Unit and provide consultation, clinical direction, general supervision, and training to the Competency/Restoration Unit staff.
Provide onsitetreatment for competency/restoration forensic patients; conduct clinical assessments; prescribe medication; handle medical emergencies as needed.
Develop treatment plans and transition planning; develop after-discharge care plans. Facilitate transition planning/MDT meeting with receiving treatment unit.
Participate in competency evaluations and court testimony as needed; and prepare and submit case reports or summaries to government or mental health agencies.
Provide medication management to all patients admitted to the Competency/Restoration Unit.
Consult with legal professionals to provide expert insights and guidance on mental health-related aspects of cases.
Approve all admissions and discharges into the Competency/Restoration. Approve, sign, and monitor the implementation and efficiency of treatment plans.
Provide in-service education to the Competency/Restoration Unit staff as needed.
Be available on a scheduled basis for the on-call needs of the Competency/Restoration Unit.
Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement audits and initiatives.
