TDI Technologies, Inc. Senior Mechanical Engineer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 2531323 Description TDI Technologies, Inc. (TDI) is seeking candidates for a Senior Mechanical Acoustic and Flow Machinery Silencing Engineer position supporting a Research and Development Test Site for NSWCPD.  This position will work with other TDI personnel and Navy teams to support early acquisition program requirements definition, feasibility, and design. The Fluid Labs Group of the machinery technology and R&D branch at NSWC Philadelphia requires support for auxiliary and propulsion systems and interfaces to other Hull, Mechanical, & Electrical (HM&E) systems, specifically valves, Cascade Orifical Resistive Devices (CORDs). This position will provide testing setup guidance and design support, as well as project engineering coordination for the test facilities.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities: 1. Prepare cost estimates for operational and flow related test planning, test execution, data analysis and technical report preparation in support of Subsea and Seabed Warfare (SSW) and HM&E subsystem component evaluation. 2. Provide test site design guidance, support test scheduling, develop test procedures, support/attend test readiness reviews, and collect and analyze test data. 3. Complete documentation packages and provide oversight for all Mission Readiness Panels documentation and reviews to ensure compliance and light off of test facilities. 4. Collaborate with the C/323 Fluid Labs Subject Matter Experts and engineering team to design repair, install, modify, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot HM&E systems and subsystem components such as valves, CORDs, and other Navy HM&E components. 5. Utilize C323 Data Acquisition Systems to set up test instrumentation and record data during test execution periods. 6. Evaluate fluid-borne acoustic data acquired during operational flow testing at test sites for compliance with operational thresholds. 7. Prepare and review technical reports post-test and present results to program management.

Requirements Education and Experience Requirements: 1. Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university; or 10 years of experience with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university. 2. 5 or more years of experience in designing and conducting tests for mechanical flow systems 3. 5 or more years of experience in acoustics design and evaluation 4. Knowledge of vibration and acoustic data acquisition on operating machinery and/or fluid-based components. 5. Basic understanding of vibration isolation and acoustic pressure mitigation techniques to reduce source emissions. 6. Experience with time and frequency domain signal processing techniques. 7. Familiarity with identification process of unknown vibration and acoustic sources through lab and field testing. 8. Awareness of methods to conduct modal testing on machinery or fluid-based systems, evaluating dynamic structural response.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Successful applicants must either have an active government security clearance or the ability to receive approval upon position acceptance. 2. Must have a valid US passport or the ability to obtain one upon position acceptance.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Essential Skills: Proficiency in developing and conducting tests of complex electrical and mechanical systems Familiarity with MATLAB, Simulink and data acquisition systems (Bruel & Kjr, LMS Test.Lab) Results-oriented and motivated to provide solutions with measurable benefit to our customers Ability to communicate complex analysis with clarity and precision Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Strong written and verbal communication skills Shipboard or industrial experience with mechanical machinery systems, testing, troubleshooting,  and repair is preferred. Desired Skills / Certifications: 1. US Navy HM&E experience

Travel: This position may require occasional travel (estimated 10%) to OEM or government sites, of ices and labs within the continental United States.
