The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Technical Manager of Lab Medicine Quality and Patient Safety to join the team:

The Technical Manager of Lab Medicine Quality and Patient Safety is responsible for the quality and safety standards of the Division. In partnership with the CLIA Director and Administrative Director of Lab Medicine, the incumbent will lead division-wide activities to optimize efforts in quality, continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, safety, development of policies and procedures, and dashboards and quality reports consistent with the Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) goals of the Division.

The Lab Medicine Technical Manager of Quality and Patient Safety directs, oversees, plans, coordinates and evaluates our comprehensive program to improve clinical outcomes, enhance value, and minimize patient harm. The incumbent will utilize tools, systems, processes and lead teams to assist with quality and safety efforts in the Lab Medicine and Hematopathology Divisions at HUP and associated affiliates including HUP Cedar, Radnor, Bucks County, Valley Forge and Rittenhouse locations.

Works with hospital, employed physician groups, affiliated physician practices, and other clinical and administrative staff to standardize quality and safety efforts in Lab Medicine. Leads Lab Medicine annual assessment of QMS, complaints and incidents with development and implementation of plans of corrective action. Assists and monitors the division’s efforts to maintain a safe working environment through development of safety policies, ongoing surveillance of environment and work practices.

· Leads the maintenance of quality assurance standards and requirements for the division’s regulatory aspects e.g. CMS, DOH, CAP, CLSI, TJC, OSHA, NRC, DEA, FDA and DOT. Functions as the Lab Medicine laboratory liaison for hospital regulatory and accrediting/regulatory agencies in preparation for inspections, site visits, documentation of compliance, deficiency corrections, status changes and licensing renewals. Conducts regular internal compliance audits.

Credentials:

Relevant Certification (Preferred)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Associate of Arts or Science in biological and chemical sciences or related healthcare field (Required)

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science in biological and chemical sciences or related healthcare field (Preferred)

  • 5 years minimum clinical laboratory experience, if candidate has a Bachelor's Degree (Required)

  • 7 years minimum clinical laboratory experience, if candidate has an Associate's Degree (Required)

  • Must meet requirements as a general supervisor under CLIA-88 (Required)

  • Additional education and/or training in Management or Lab Management (Preferred)

  • 5+ years experience managing high volume clinical labs while meeting superior customer satisfaction expectations (Preferred)
