St. Luke's University Health Network Nutrition Services Aide, Dietary (Per Diem, Evenings) in Phillipsburg, New Jersey

The Food Service Aide provides patients, visitors, and co-workers with outstanding customer service. Performs a variety of routine duties in the cafeteria to prepare equipment and foods for service. Serves food and cleans up after meals. Operates cash register. Speaks the menu to patients and takes meal orders. Assembles patient meal trays. Delivers and retrieves patient trays. Operate dish and pot machines. Follows established practices and procedures. Fills in for breaks of all co-workers. Assures that area is always well stocked and presentable.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greets customers and patients in a genuine and friendly manner following Service Excellence guidelines.

  • Prepares and sets up steam table and various counters. Obtains and places dishes, take out containers, serving utensils, hot and cold foods, baked goods, desserts, beverages and condiments. Makes coffee.

  • Serves customers adhering to portion control standards.

  • Maintains adequate supply of food and non-food items. Communicates needs with kitchen staff.

  • Wipes off counters and tables. Arranges, rearranges, and replenishes items as needed in all areas within the Cafeteria.

  • Performs cashier duties accurately and according to guidelines.

  • Assists with food preparation following recipes and serving guidelines.

  • Speaks menu to patients and accurately records menu choices.

  • Assembles patient trays according to selections and diet orders in an efficient manner and according to tray diagrams.

  • Record calorie count information as required.

  • Transport tray carts as needed.

  • Delivers and retrieves patient trays.

  • Records food / equipment temperatures as assigned.

  • Monitors floor supplies and assembles and delivers items as needed ensuring accurate record-keeping.

  • Deliver, set up and serve at catering and/or special functions on time per policy.

  • Participates in post meal cleanup tasks as assigned or directed, including emptying of carts.

  • Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

  • Completes sanitations and cleaning duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrates teamwork at all times.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Frequent prolonged standing and walking for up to 8 hours per day, 2 hours at a time, is required to perform duties. Handling, firm grasping, twisting and turning is frequent. Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds.

There is occasional stooping, bending and reaching above shoulder level.

Must have ability for touching, when handling food, hearing as it relates to normal conversation and seeing as it relates to general vision.

EDUCATION:

High school graduate or equivalent is required. Ability to read and write English and communicate effectively.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

At least 1 year of cafeteria or waitressing experience preferred.
