Responsibilities
In addition to performing the duties of a respiratory therapist as described in the respiratory therapist job description, the Advanced Respiratory Therapist fills a specific role in a specialized area of expertise. Provides advanced assessment, treatment, and monitoring of hospital patients with cardiopulmonary compromise and provides advanced support for the equipment necessary for the care of these patients. Provides diagnostic, therapeutic, critical care and preventative services to patients in the Emergency Department, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and Critical Care and may also function as the shift Charge Therapist. Serves as a technical and educational resource for patients and their family members, Respiratory staff, Respiratory students, and other members of the patient care team. Responsible for assessing data reflective of the patient’s status and appropriately interpreting information relative to the patient’s age-specific needs. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span. Must be flexible to work hospital hours including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Critical Care, ED, Bronchoscopy, and Difficult Airway competencies, in addition to routine hospital respiratory floor competencies required.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy, Associate’s degree and a minimum of one year of experience in a respiratory therapy critical care environment, including demonstrated Critical Care, ED, Bronchoscopy, and Difficult Airway competencies, in addition to routine hospital respiratory floor competencies required.Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years critical care respiratory therapy experience at Mayo Clinic or another healthcare facility with similar patient acuity and complexity preferred. Demonstrated ability to adapt well and calmly to unpredictable situations within all hospital care settings. Evidence of effective interpersonal skills, advanced patient assessment skills, and advanced computer skills. Current Arizona Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License required. Must be credentialed through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) or Canadian Board of Respiratory Care (CBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Basic Life Support Certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency. ACLS preferred on hire and required within 6 months; ACLS must be maintained thereafter. PALS preferred.

Schedule Details
x3 12 hour shifts per week. This is a day shift position. Hours are 0600-1830.
Weekend Schedule
Every other weekend is required, as well as three rotating holidays each year.
