Job Overview:

As a Claims Manager, you will play a key role in overseeing and driving the success of the Risk Management department. The Claims Manager will be responsible for implementing strategies and driving performance to achieve corporate objectives. Additionally, the Claims Manager is responsible for overseeing multi-jurisdictional workers' compensation, auto, and general liability claims, which will include working with internal and external stakeholders to manage claims effectively, mitigate risk, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The Claims Manager will also be responsible for implementing strategies that align with Leslie’s vision and values, fostering a high-performance culture, and driving performance to achieve corporate objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee multi-jurisdictional workers’ compensation, general, and auto liability claims, including internal and external communications with Third Party Administrator (TPA), attorneys and other parties, as needed.

  • Receive incident reports from Leslie’s various locations and determine if claims should be filed with our TPA or handled internally.

  • Administer workers’ compensation and auto claims reporting and maintain accurate tracking for analysis.

  • Ensure claims are thoroughly investigated and work closely with examiners to make sure the appropriate liability decision is rendered.

  • Collect and maintain OSHA logs and verify they are properly posted at locations or submitted electronically through the online reporting system.

  • Maintain internal control in compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley act to protect financial data and prevent fraud.

  • Coordinate with insurance adjusters and attorneys to resolve claims, focusing on timely actions to promote cost reduction and timely resolution.

  • Manage auto liability claims, by evaluating coverage and coordinating with adjusters on reserve adequacy. Handle settlement negotiations by strategizing with adjusters and attorneys to formulate the appropriate plan of action to bring claims to resolution.

  • Administer any property damage claims by coordinating with locations to verify an incident report is completed. Determine liability and file a claim with the carrier or involved party. Follow up with the appropriate party to reach a resolution.

  • Determine subrogation potential and work with external entities to settle claims.

  • Oversee motor vehicle reporting for employees driving company vehicles or personal vehicles on company business. Ensure compliance with Leslie's Rules of the Road policy through semi-annual MVR reviews.

  • Evaluate general liability claims, manage investigations, and negotiate settlements. Determine when claims should be tendered to insurance carriers for defense.

  • Manage the company’s safety compliance program across all operational departments (retail, distribution centers, service markets). Track safety meetings and ensure regulatory adherence.

  • Assist the Director of Risk Management with the insurance renewal process to include gathering of Loss Runs, Annual Payroll Data, and other pertinent business information.

  • Must be willing to familiarize yourself with the various components of the Risk Management process to include risk identification; risk measurement and assessment; risk mitigation; risk reporting and monitoring; and risk governance

  • Coordinate with our broker, and various business departments to verify we issue up-to-date Certificates of Liability Insurance.

  • Assist the Director of Environmental Health and Safety in developing and executing risk mitigation strategies, ensuring the company’s ‘Cost of Risk’ remains stable and cost-effective.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Safety, Legal, HR, Retail Ops and Commercial, to ensure consistent safety practices and risk management efforts across the organization.

  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment that aligns with Leslie’s vision, mission, and values.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, including ADA, FMLA, and OSHA regulations.

  • Work with human resources when permanent restrictions are received on a Workers’ Compensation claim to determine if we can accommodate based on appropriate federal and State guidelines.

  • Assist in developing and implementing corporate risk management strategies that support organizational objectives.

  • Collaborate with senior management to align risk mitigation efforts with business strategies and promote a culture of safety and accountability.

  • Lead the implementation of strategies that drive performance to achieve corporate objectives.

  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members appropriately.

  • Monitor project progress and adjust plans as needed to ensure successful completion.

  • Contribute to the development of corporate strategies and objectives in alignment with Leslie's overall mission, vision, and values.

    Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in Insurance, Risk Management, Safety, Workers’ Compensation, or Regulatory Affairs.

  • 2-5+ years of proven experience in a managerial role, preferably in a corporate environment within the retail or consumer goods industry.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, Risk Management or related field. MBA or other advanced degree is preferred.

  • 2-3 years of workers’ compensation experience required.

  • Extensive knowledge of workers’ compensation, general, and auto liability in a multi-jurisdictional environment.

  • Expertise in employer and employment practices liability, including ADA and FMLA regulations.

  • Desire to grow your knowledge in the various lines of insurance to include but not limited to Workers’ compensation, General Liability, Auto Liability, Property, Cargo, Environmental, Crime, and Cyber Insurance.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior management and cross-functional teams.

  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; familiarity with risk management software tools.

  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to identify challenges, develop solutions, and make data-driven decisions.

  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development to stay updated with industry trends and best practices.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
