The Residence Inn/Courtyard by Marriott Phoenix Downtown is a contemporary 20-story high rise building with 120 Courtyard rooms and 200 Residence Inn studio suites. Located in the heart of downtown Phoenix, our hotel offers a 24-hour fitness center, heated indoor salt water pool, and guest laundry facility. We have over 7,000 square feet of event space, making us a perfect venue for successful programs.

Role Description

The Sales Manager is responsible for generating new group business for the hotels with a focus on LNR & BT accounts, SMERF, weddings, government, and judicial/courts business. Day-to-day tasks include prospecting and generating leads, conducting sales calls and site visits, negotiating contracts, and building relationships with clients to generate repeat business. They are also responsible for growing existing accounts within this size and scope, and generating new business to ensure that room revenue and catering revenue meet or exceed budget in order to maximize revenue and profits and to improve the hotel's performance in the marketplace The Sales Manager will also be responsible for maintaining accurate client and account information in the hotel's sales management system.

• Two years experience in the sales and marketing, guest services, front desk, or related profession.

• Knowledge of Property Management Systems, FOSSE is a plus

• Must work well in stressful, high pressure situations.

• Must be effective at listening to, understanding, clarifying and resolving the concerns and issues raised by clients, guests and co-workers.

• Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.

• Must maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.

• Contact appropriate individual or department (e.g., Sales, Data Administration, Accounting) as necessary to resolve guest calls, requests, or problems.

• Use sales techniques that maximize revenue while maintaining existing guest loyalty to Marriott, including up-selling.

• Responsible for consistently providing a high level of exposure for the hotel in major market areas through direct sales solicitation, telephone contact, written communications, and involvement with the community.

• Understands the overall market – competitors' strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, supply and demand etc. and knows how to sell against them.

• Develop and maintain relationships with key clients in order to produce repeat group business, while continuing to identify, qualify, and solicit new accounts from local and national accounts in the immediate market.

• Concentrate effort in selling rooms; responsible for targeted revenue goals

• Conduct sales visits and maintain good working relationships with corporate travel managers, procurement officers, business travel agents, and leisure agents

• Executes and supports the operational aspects of business booked (e.g., generating proposal, writing contract, customer correspondence) in timely fashion

• Develop and conduct persuasive verbal sales presentations to prospective clients

• Articulate and leverage the benefits of the hotel to close sales opportunities

• Travel locally to conduct outside calls, promote the hotel, and review competition

• Generate new ideas for new promotions, partnerships, and strategic alliances to build visibility and revenue opportunities

• Works collaboratively with off-property sales channels (e.g., Sales Office, Area Sales, EST) to ensure sales efforts are coordinated, complementary and not duplicative.
